Madden 2021 Adds Colin Kaepernick, Gives Him Higher Rating Than Derek Carr and Half The NFL’s Starting QBs

EA Sports is adding Colin Kaepernick to their Madden 2021 video game and his overall rating on the game has been determined be 81.

Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL in four years and hasn’t achieved a quarterback rating of at least 92.0 since 2002, but his overall rating from EA Sports will be better than Cam Newton, Ryan Tannehill, Josh Allen, Derek Carr, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, and Jared Goff.

Kaepernick will turn 33 during the season and despite his time away from football, EA Sports is grading him higher than more than half of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL. For quarterbacks like Tannehill (117.5 QB rating) and Carr (100.8 QB rating), who played particularly well in 2019, it seems outrageous that they weren’t rated higher by EA Sports in the first place.

A video game rating is just the latest round of disrespect that Carr gets every year from pundits around the league. For all the setbacks within the Raiders’ organization since 2016, the blame falls on Carr more than anyone else for the team’s difficult three-year stretch.

Maybe that comes with the territory when you sign a lucrative contract like Carr did in 2017… but it’s worth noting that his deal now only comes in as the 15th most-expensive contract among quarterbacks in the league based on per-year average. Just a little further down the list at no. 23 is none other than fellow Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota.
