Two years ago, Maxx Crosby and a host of other Raiders openly voiced their support for interim head coach Rich Bisaccia. They wanted Bisaccia retained after an unlikely playoff run in 2021, but Raiders owner Mark Davis opted to sign Josh McDaniels to a six-year, $60 million deal, instead.
Now Crosby and others are lobbying once again for their interim head coach – this time it being Antonio Pierce.
Crosby said this week that he wants to do everything he can to help interim head coach Rich Bisaccia get the job and added that he has shared those feelings with Raiders’ owner Mark Davis.
“Selfishly, I want them to continue to be the head coach and GM. I’ve been very honest with them. I told Mark the same thing,” Crosby said this week on NFL Network’s The Insiders.
“For me, I take it as an extra motivation to help this team win so they can be in the position they’re in now for the long term,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of head coaches and a lot of change in my five years, and I just want stability and honesty. I feel like AP and Champ are everything that represents that. Those guys are super honest, they’re straightforward, and I think they’re doing an incredible job.”
For what it’s worth, a report this week suggested that interim GM Champ Kelly is the likely front-runner to get the full-time GM job after the season.
If that happens, it would probably be good news for Pierce and his chances of being retained after the season.
