Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers Could Soon Steal a Maneuver from Davante Adams’ Off-Field Playbook

It was becoming obvious last week that Jakobi Meyers and the Raiders were entering a critical point in contract negotiations and on Monday, Meyers made a move to put more pressure on the team.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, Meyers has officially requested a trade.

Rapoport said the Raiders have made it known they will not be trading their no. 1 wide receiver, and it will be interesting to see if Meyers is willing to play in meaningful games without a new deal.

Ian Rapoport on X (formerly Twitter): “#Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers recently met with team brass and requested to be traded, per me and @TomPelissero.The team, citing his value, said they had no plans to do so. Meyers and the team attempted to negotiate a new contract, but could not come to terms. pic.twitter.com/GM2oUMDjt3 / X”

Last week, Vegas beat writer Levi Damien asked Meyers how much he would like to remain with the Raiders after the season, and the veteran wide receiver’s response was notable

“As much as they want me here,” Meyers answered quickly. “That’s really all I can say about that.”

There have been rumblings that Meyers was going to maximize his leverage for a new deal, and that could mean a holdout or even a hamstring injury similar to what Davante Adams dealt with a year ago might be on the horizon.

A “hamstring injury” would allow Meyers to collect games checks while unofficially holding out. Maybe Meyers wouldn’t stoop to that level, but if he did, it would be second time in the last 10 months a wide receiver in Las Vegas played that card.

Given his production and status in the locker room, Meyers has leverage for a player that isn’t widely considered to be one of the top 25 at his position. The Raiders don’t have the depth at wide receiver to go into the 2025 season without their no. 1 WR and for that reason, there’s a good chance the sides will reach a solution before the start of the season.

Look for the Raiders and Meyers to come together on a new deal by sometime next week.

Until then, it seems like the team and the player are on course to scrap and claw for every dollar hanging in the balance.

  1. Don’t want to trade Jacoby Myers, but if we do we better get back what he’s worth , and nothing less!

  2. I’m surprised they haven’t given him a new contract yet? He didn’t drop a pass last season and had over 1000 yds. How is he not valued? I gotta question the brass’s decisions on how they’re handling their players? We traded away Bennett for Booker and then they cut Booker? Now we’re giving g away draft pics and players for nothing in return? Now 5th for Pickett? We gave away a 3rd and a 5th for QBs???

    1. They traded Jakorian Bennett for Thomas Booker, but they cut Tank Booker. Not the same guy. Thomas Booker is probably gonna start…

    2. We should have picked up Huntley for next to nothing or waited for Pickett to get cut. They both suck but Huntley would have been cheaper and is a better runner. Seems like we are making a lot of desperation moves and should have resigned Meyers. Front office looking like same old Raiders. We need all the picks we can get seeing as we don’t really have a top notch QB on the roster.

  3. He’s had 1 1,000 yd receiving in his career, he’s not a WR1 nor should he think after 1 year he deserves WR1 money

    1. Do we know for a fact that he’s asking for WR1 dollars? He may just be asking for a contract commensurate with his value to the team. The team could be low balling the guy? A lot we don’t know about the situation. We’ll probably give the guy away. The team hardly ever makes a good trade. Starting to look like another sub-500 season.

  4. Different year, different management team, same bad decision making. Apparently, nothing will change until Mark Davis sells the team to a group with actual football knowledge. Until then, it’s remembering past greatness, waxing nostalgic for and of past glory days and losing season after losing season. I’ve been a Raiders fan since 1968 and bleed Silver and Black but the losing and bad decisions are getting old. Sure, all NFL franchises make money from merchandising and the television contract so they are profitable but we fans of this once proud franchise have been suffering for years now. I’m starting to understand what it must be like to be a New York Jets fan.

  5. Typical Mark The Dummy shenanigans! Piss away millions on HC and GM guaranteed salaries, but can’t afford to pay the players that actually produce on the field?! Is he still paying Gruden, McDaniels, Ziegler, Pierce, and Telesco? The shyt show goes on!
