More O-Line Depth: Raiders Sign Jonathan Cooper

The Oakland Raiders have added some depth along the offensive line, signing free agent Jonathan Cooper. In turn, WR Montay Crockett was waived.

Here’s the official press release from the team:

Due to a two-game suspension, the Raiders will be without the services of presumed starting left guard Richie Incognito to start the season. Knowing that, it’s imperative for the silver and black to make sure they have the proper depth to help bridge the gap. At this point, Denzelle Good seems to be the leader in the clubhouse as the top reserve at the position, but the addition of Cooper will certainly add to the competition. The veterans are scheduled to report to training camp on July 26th.

Per Pro Football Focus, in his 1,057 pass blocking snaps from 2014-2017, Cooper only gave up 5 sacks, 10 QB hits and 32 QB hurries.

In 2018, Cooper signed a 1-year, $790k deal with Washington. On December 3rd, in just his fourth appearance with the team, he suffered a torn biceps that ended his season.

Below is a twitter thread from Mark Bullock, an NFL writer for The Athletic, as he analyzes some of Cooper’s film from last season:

Thought #Redskins LG Jonathan Cooper held up pretty well against the Texans. Had a strong finish on this block https://t.co/keu3Vdov6g

Now that he’s healthy, Cooper will get a shot to earn a role on Tom Cable’s offensive line.
