Russell Wilson is going to play somewhere next year, and the cost to get him is expected to less than $2 million because of the offset language in his previous contract with the Broncos.
In theory, Wilson would be a good fit for the Raiders because he is still a capable quarterback and the financial investment to get him wouldn’t be anywhere near enough to deter the Raiders from making an aggressive move for a quarterback in the draft.
But Raider fans mostly don’t want to see Wilson in Las Vegas (at least not wearing silver and black) and national radio host Jason Fitz gave a good explanation to why the fit between Wilson and the Raiders might not be the best.
Appearing this week on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate, Fitz shared his sentiment on the idea of Wilson joining the Raiders…
“If I can bring [Russell Wilson] in for cheap, I’d take a look at him. What I don’t know, and this is just me outside looking in at a distance. I think the quarterback has to echo the personality of the coach and the organization. I do not believe that Russell Wilson echos the personality of Maxx Crosby, echos the personality of Antonio Pierce. I don’t believe from that standpoint he fits.
I think right now more than anything, if you’ve got dogs all over this locker room that are coming out with that level of fire, and you’ve got a dog for a head coach that comes out with an attitude from the minute he walks on the field, I think you’re quarterback has to echo that same sentiment or be completely neutral. I don’t think Russell Wilson does either of those things. I think he’s too much of a nice guy and too much of a caricature to be a great fit for the Raiders as an organization.”
For what it’s worth, about 55 percent of voters in a poll hosted on X said they would not want Wilson even on a veteran minimum contract.
As of now, the Steelers are considered by many to be the favorite to sign Russell.
A report on Thursday indicated the Steelers and Wilson are expected to meet sometime before the start of free agency on March 13.

Raider’s Do Not need Wilson, we Need Young Blood, who can be A Mobile QB. Because Our OL needs to Learn how to Stop The Pass Rush. Or Any of Our QB’s will never have time to set up their plays to Succeed.
Young blood is great. But 60% of first round QBs fail and only four Rookie QBs in history have won more than 9 games. Interestingly enough 9 is usually the breakeven point to get a Wild Card slot. So yeah tiger let’s get a rookie an win 6 games or if the analytics show out 9 games (best case) and miss the playoffs again. And watch Russ go to the Squeelers and win 10 to get in. Do I know the game has changed? Yes. Do I understand the importance the quality at the QB position? Yes. What I don’t get is ignoring history to lay down a big losing bet. Draft a QB? Yes! Play him? Not until he’s ready. Hire a quality proven vet on the cheap? Why the heck not! This has low risk – high reward written all over it. Honestly, what is the resistance to this? It absolutely does not prohibit good drafting. The concepts are NOT exclusive.
Yup. Fitz is right. A nine time Pro Bowler, SuperBowl Champion, and two-time NFC Champ just doesn’t have the fire to stand next to First-Time HC Antonio Pierce (who knows what it takes to be a SB Champ) and Maxx Crosby (who will eventually retire as a one-time DPOY for the Raiders or move on and retire elsewhere) unless the organization can get a QB of at least Wilson’s caliber. Wilson is an instant upgrade to the QB room who is being pursued by teams that were better in 2023 than the Raiders. He will cost one Mark Davis mortgage payment to kick the tires on. Brian Hoyer will cost more than twice that already gone! Anyone who doesn’t think Russ has a fire is just well…no name calling here. And if you don’t believe he wants to beat the horse-dung out of the Broncos twice year cannot be serious! Oh and he, and AP have something in common. Beating Mahomes. How many others can say that? I guess that doesn’t meet the “fire” requirement. Gimme’ a break.
