There have been mixed reports on the Raiders interest in Justin Fields, and one of the reasons that some don’t believe the Raiders will make a push for Fields is the fact that Luke Getsy is now the offensive coordinator in Las Vegas.
Getsy was the offensive coordinator in Chicago last year, and shortly after he was hired by the Raiders, a report in The Athletic said it was very unlikely that Fields and Getsy would reunite.
But in the weeks since Getsy was hired, several reports have indicated that the Raiders are still interested in Fields. Those reports have pointed to the Bears’ asking price as the primary reason the Raiders haven’t made a move for Fields.
Believe what you want (it is lying season, after all), but Yahoo and Fox Sports Radio host Jason Fitz entered the conversation this week and shared what he has heard about the relationship between Getsy and Fields.
“I talked to somebody that knows the Bears in and out and has covered the Bears for a while, that is really familiar with the organization, and they told me very, very clearly that there is no relationship between Getsy and Justin Fields,” Fitz said on Raider Nation Radio’s Morning Tailgate.
“I asked this question weeks ago. ‘Hey, what are the chances?’ And the answer I got was not just ‘No.’ The answer I got was ‘Hell, no.'”
The fact that Fields is still a member of the Bears is a good indication that they are asking too much for their former first-round pick, but it also sounds like the Raiders are content to find a quarterback in the draft. There are potentially six quarterbacks that could be taken in the first round of this year’s draft, so plans A, B and C for the Raiders at quarterback might all come down to the draft.
Russell Wilson is the one veteran option that might make sense for the Raiders, but some believe the Steelers are his preferred destination.
A report on Thursday indicated that Wilson and the Steelers are planning to meet before the start of free agency…
