Radio Host Shares Trade Partner that Makes a Lot of Sense for the Raiders on Draft Day

Whether it happens in free agency or the draft, the Raiders are preparing to make a big investment in a quarterback in the weeks ahead.

The free agent option is on the table, but most believe Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins are on course to return to their respective teams. That scenario would leave the Raiders with a decision to make on Russell Wilson, but at least one NFL insider believes there isn’t a lot of interest between the Raiders and Wilson at the moment.

Assuming the draft is where the Raiders will decide to make an aggressive move for a quarterback, it will be interesting to see how they choose to go about landing one of the top quarterbacks in the draft.

With the 13th-overall pick in the draft, it’s very likely that the Raiders will have to trade up if they want one of the top four quarterbacks. Complicating matters even more is that the cost to trade into one of the top three picks is expected to be unprecedented.

If the Raiders aren’t willing to pay the price to get one of the top three picks, one option that might make sense is the no. 7 pick owned by the Tennessee Titans.

Yahoo Sports and Fox Sports Radio host Jason Fitz appeared on Raider Nation Radio’s The Morning Tailgate this week and explained why the Titans might be a perfect trade partner for the Raiders on draft day.

“For Tennessee, their biggest needs are for offensive playmakers and offensive linemen,” Fitz said. “You can move down to [pick] 13 and get a starting wide receiver or a starting tackle. Without question, you’ll get one of the those. I look squarely at [pick] 7 as one of the places [the Raiders] could go to that’s going to be open for business.”

The Titans don’t need a quarterback and they draft ahead of the Jets, Falcons, Bears, and Broncos – all of whom could be targeting a quarterback with their respective first-round picks. If the Titans are interested in trading the 7th pick, there could be a lot of competition for the pick.

The question for the Raiders if they want a quarterback that’s on the board at pick 7…

What is a reasonable price to pay… and what will they be willing to give up to secure a franchise quarterback?

  1. #7 does make sense. Trading up to get one of the top guys is way too costly. We have way too many needs to give away all out top picks for years. We really need to build both lines. A top QB does you no good if you can’t protect him. If we could make a reasonable trade that would be awesome. If not stay put, build the lines and secondary and maybe pick up someone like Spencer Rattler.

    1. I concur wholeheartedly with your assessment. Most people (Raiders) apparently didn’t listen to “The Pivot ” podcast when the question was asked to coach AP about the quarterback position. Had they, perhaps their assessment would change.

    1. Yes,this will be his breakout year with Adams and Jacobs. Give a second and 5th round draft choices. Then we can pick an O line tackle and then a d line tackle.

  3. Yes, i agree trade for fields if we cannot move up. No more old timers looking for heir last contract…. Garrapolo, Hoyer, cousins, wilson and winston

    1. I think they could do pretty good staying where there at… work on the on-line and then look for a QB later in the draft… maybe get someone who can scramble…we definitely need someone who can use his legs

  4. Come on Pierce and Telesco get the Jaydon Daniels trade done early with Chicago. Don’t let a scab team like the donkeys jump to it first. Send off Adams to the jets for a steep price, they want him bad enough they will pay. Daniels,AOC4, and either taylor or Brisset. They will help the young qb’s. Give jacobs a 3 year 35 million contract. Restructure Renfro’s contract or show him the exit sign. Since Adams is gone go after another recrute of pierce’s Ayuik of the 49ers, yes. Coach pierce and Ayuik are buddies from ASU. These are my wishes and i have more. Hope you all like mine.

  5. Bo Nix @13 pick then make Defense stronger to help out Crosby. Then pick up WR Troy Franklin @Oregon . Then maybe a backup RB …..
Then finally last pick a back up QB like SF did. Lol That would be the game play to stick with not trading a lot of picks away.

  6. Silas, I like Nix at 13 and D-line help but I’d pass on receiver and protect the rookie QB. Then pick up Rattler in the 4th round if he’s still around cause he has great potential. And D-back.
