Insider Says Former Super Bowl Winning Quarterback Isn’t Expected to be a Fit with the Raiders

The Raiders are preparing to enter an offseason where the overwhelming expectation is that they will be aggressive in their search for another quarterback.

There will be a few veteran options at quarterback for the Raiders, but the three biggest names that have been linked to the Raiders are probably going to end up elsewhere.

Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield are considered by many to be the top free agent quarterbacks entering the market, but both are likely to re-sign with their respective teams. Justin Fields might be on the trade block in Chicago, but the hiring of Luke Getsy might have erased any chance he will end up in Las Vegas.

The other veteran quarterback who has been linked to the Raiders is Russell Wilson, who is currently under contract with the Broncos.

But it sounds like Wilson probably isn’t headed to the Raiders, either.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Shultz, the Raiders and Wilson don’t appear to be a fit…

“I would be really, really surprised, based on what I’ve been told if [he ended up] with the Raiders. I know that’s been speculated a little bit nationally, but it would surprise me if Russell Wilson ended up with the Raiders. I still wouldn’t rule out the possibility of him returning to the Broncos on a restructured deal.”

If the Raiders don’t add a solid veteran quarterback to compete with Aidan O’Connell, the other alternatives will involve the draft.

Unfortunately, with the 13th overall pick in the draft, the Raiders might be in a tough position to land one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. As it stands in the second week of February, there could be as many as eight teams picking ahead of the Raiders that will need a quarterback.

Big decisions for Tom Telesco and company are coming soon.
