Have the Raiders and head coach Pete Carroll reached a point of no return going into next year?
It’s looking more and more like Carroll’s fate has been determined and a report on Monday from ESPN’s Ryan McFadden essentially said what has been rumored for the last week or so.
Carroll’s time in Las Vegas is almost certainly in its final days.
“It is clear the Raiders are in an even worse state than they were under former coach Antonio Pierce last season when they went 4-13 and the current talent on the roster does not fit the timeline of a 74-year-old Super Bowl head coach who came to Las Vegas with the expectation of being competitive right away,” McFadden said on Monday.
“With three weeks left in the regular season, the Raiders and Carroll are trending towards a divorce, meaning Las Vegas will be in the head coaching market once again this offseason.”
Going into the week 14 game in Philadelphia, there was some hope that Carroll might be able to turn the Raiders’ season around against an Eagles team that was coming off three consecutive losses.
But on Sunday, the Raiders made the Eagles look like Super Bowl champions again as they managed only 75 yards of total offense and backup quarterback Kenny Pickett was just as ineffective as his predecessor.
The Vegas defense wasn’t any better as they gave up a whopping 183 rushing yards to an Eagles offense that has been struggling to run the ball this year. Additionally, Jalen Hurts threw three touchdowns in a game for the first time since October.
Through 14 games, the Raiders seem to be worse at every aspect of the game compared to a year ago (which is no small statement), and the case to retain Carroll is getting weaker every week.
It has been rumored that Carroll is essentially a lame-duck coach going into the final three games of the season and based on McFadden’s wording, albeit a little gentle, it seems clear that the Carroll era in Las Vegas is down to its final weeks.
After landing one of the most respected head coaches in the league history, another one-and-done head coach is not what anyone was expecting for the Raiders 11 months ago.
But as bad as the Raiders were a year ago, they have somehow managed to get worse in 2025. And this time they pulled it off with one of the most respected head coaches in league on the sideline.

Trending? Trending?? He shouldn’t make it to next weekend.
The Front Office is Afraid that if they Elevate a Coach to Interim that the Team would respond with a Win or even two in the Last 3 Games. They Prefer keeping #1 pick Safe as the Players are NOT Playing for this Ancient Phony… Marky Boy did it again…
The once venerable franchise has become the team where good players want out and head coaches go to wither away. Max is stubbornness personified. Sad.
Plenty of good head coaching candidates avaliable this off-season to choose from. There is no doubt that coach Biden has to go though.
You’re an idiot.
Your mother likes me.
As damaging as the coaching turnover is, I don’t see how you make the case to bring him back. The team not only seems worse than a year ago, they seem worse than they were at the beginning of the season, which is a heck of an indictment of the coaching staff. Throw in the nepotism, favoritism, the lack of competition within the organization and against opponents, and there just isn’t anything positive to say about the job he’s done this year.
Pickett averaged 2.8 YPA yesterday. That almost seems impossible. A combination of playcalling and QB play that should get the entire offensive staff fired, Pickett released and Spytek fired for giving up a meaningful pick for the guy.
Not Sure Crowns Carroll as “Respected” but he has Proven to be a Complete Fraud AGAIN!!! Good Salesman but Horrific Coach. Take a Hard look at his whole Career Resume… Not what Most would Imagine a “Well Respected” Coach would Celebrate. Bring on Either of the Kubiak Kids OR Both!!!
Every since J. Burden obliterated the Raider team that went to the playoffs. The first thing he did was release khalill Mack then Amari Cooper and the exit began. From that point, the Raiders have been a wreck. What can Pete Carrol do? I guess walk away. Every since they screwed “Riverboat Jack”.
We were in the playoffs w/Gruden’s team & instead of building w/Mayock/Bisciaa, Mark decided they didn’t have leadership qualities like McDonalds & Ziegler. Was that Brady in Mark’s ear? Probably
I wrote Jon Gruden as the culprit.
Jon Gruden disbanded and destroyed Jack Del Rio’s playoff Raiders. And the Raiders have never been able to recover.
We went to the playoffs
Vinny B reported today that guys like Tom Brady aren’t gonna stand for this. Yeah except we are in this situation cuz of Tom Brady.
He just disregards, Darnold, McDaniels, Chip Kelly, Carroll, etc. Brady is a bigger failure than Mark
Biden was NEVER a good coach. He CHEATED his way through USC, was horrific with the Jets, and called a pass that cost him the Super Bowl when he had Marshawn Lynch in the backfield on the goal line.
Trump licker??
Newsom stroker?
Did you really vote for the party that thinks men can get pregnant?
I hate to say it ,but we really do need to lose the rest of our games! To win this season would be meaningless ,and stupid!
I think we should thank Pete Carroll for guiding the Raiders to rock bottom. If you are going to be bad, it is better to be the worst the way the NFL is structured. Let Pete coach the last 3 weeks and secure the #1 pick. Then let him retire gracefully while the Raiders plan for picking a franchise QB.
Franchise quarterback? There’s far too many of you people that don’t understand the concept of success in football.
Maybe you’ll understand the phrase, throwing him to the wolves?
I’m open to trading the pick if they’re not sold on the quarterbacks but we can get OL in FA & they will overpay
Like Cappa? We can’t afford to get used offensive lineman for big money that absorb all of the salary cap. We need to build a young offensive line and a young defensive line that can grow together as a unit. You can afford to sign one on each side of the ball. That does nothing for the depth that you’re gonna need.
No, you don’t throw a draft pick out there. You let Geno earn that contract money for another year. The second round has to be offensive line.
No, you don’t keep Gina for any reason. And unless there is an iron clad blue chip five star left tackle, which there isn’t you trade back. And you load up on offensive lineman. Maybe trade back twice. We need afor any reason. And unless there is a iron clad blue chip five star left tackle, which there isn’t you trade back. And you load up on offensive lineman. Maybe trade back twice. We need a lot of personnel. Not projects.
The time to build both lines is in this draft.Period.
I don’t disagree with building the lines. We will be paying Geno anyway, and it’s him or another turd. We won’t be winning next year, 5 wins, stay close 5 more times, will be a good season next year. Likely will not be in this position again, even though I’m not overly enamored with this QB class. We have to take one, if not first then in the 2nd. It may take a few misses to get the right QB, only 40% or 50% of first rounds become starters.
Pass on the Q in this draft. And unless Brady is left out of any football decisions and the best HC option is able to hire his staff and they can shop for system compatible personnel, will end up in the same situation we were in this year.
