Harrison Jr.’s character called into question
The Raiders desperately need a no. 1 wide receiver, and the popular conversation right now is around potential trade for Marvin Harrison Jr.
The California’s Post’s Vinny Bonsignore wrote a column this week imploring the Raiders to roll the dice on Harrison Jr., but not all of Bonsignore’s media colleagues seem to be of the same mindset.
Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter pointed to a few concerns with Harrison last week, and Raider Nation Radio’s Q Myers poured a little cold water on the Harrison idea on his Tuesday podcast.
“Marvin Harrison Jr. has five catches on the season and what he looks like when he’s out there is he looks very uninterested,” Myers said on the Locked on Raiders Squad Show.
“To me, and this is just me, I don’t know this from anyone. But from me, in my point of view, I don’t think he looks like a guy that John Spytek and company would want to bring in. A guy that because he’s in a bad situation, because he’s not playing with a good team, because he’s not being featured, he’s not going full throttle. He’s not giving you everything. Spytek and company have always talked about guys that they can hold accountable. Always talking about guys that are high character guys, football guys, guys that love the game, guys that are going to push their teammates and be pushed.”
“I don’t see [Harrison] as a good fit just because of the attitude that it seems like he’s playing with right now where he’s really uninterested in suiting up in in Arizona.”
Could the Raiders be the change of scenery Marvin Harrison Jr. needs?
Myers went on to talk about Harrison potentially thriving with a new team and said he has been told the decision makers in the Raiders’ building were once a fan of the former first round pick.
“Now again, that could be a change of scenery situation,” Myers said about the idea of Harrison Jr. just needing to get away from the Arizona Cardinals.
“I know what they thought about him in the draft process. I’ve heard that they liked him, but that’s from people that just cover the team and have told me that they have an understanding that they liked Marvin Harrison in the draft process. I don’t know that for a fact, so don’t quote me on that. I’m just throwing it out there if they did like him, maybe they think that they would be the coaches and the staff to really get him motivated and they see how he could work in the offense.”
Myers didn’t specify who in the Raiders’ building liked Harrison the year he was drafted, but presumably he was talking about people that are currently in the building.
Could Chris Godwin be an option for the Raiders?
GM John Spytek and head coach Klint Kubiak were with different teams two years ago, so it would be interesting to know what Spytek thought about Harrison when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2024.
Another name that was brought up this week is veteran wide receiver Chris Godwin, who Spytek and Tom Brady know well from their time together in Tampa.
