Analyst Believes Raiders are “Priority No. 1” For Shedeur Sanders

Shedeur Sanders made headlines at the start of the week when a report from ESPN’s Todd McShay said the University of Colorado quarterback came across as arrogant and “not overly concerned” in meeting with certain teams at the NFL Combine.

“The two people that I spoke to were in meetings and had these individual meetings that I just laid out to you what they are, who’s in there and why they’re important — teams in the top 10 drafting that need a quarterback,” McShay said on his podcast.

“The two people that I spoke to in these positions left the meeting feeling like Shedeur Sanders was not overly concerned with what they thought of him. They had a 15-minute meeting with them, and when they were done, they both said in different ways, different words, that they did not feel like Shedeur Sanders cared all that much about what that organization thought of him.”

There’s no way to know exactly what was said and done in Shedeur’s meetings, but CBS Sports analyst Chris Trapasso has a theory to why certain meetings might have taken an awkward turn.

Trapasso believes the Sanders family has been angling for Shedeur to go to a particular team or two, with one being the Raiders, and if that’s the case, teams may have been reading him correctly in meetings at the Combine.

“My gut feeling and this was kind of reading some tea leaves from scouts that I talked to during the season. He wants to go to Las Vegas with the Raiders,” Trapasso said on the Maggie and Perloff Show.

“His connection with Tom Brady, we know his dad’s history. His dad was kind of picking and choosing where he wanted to go when he was an NFL player and wasn’t shy about doing so,” Trapasso continued. “The fact that he maybe came off as arrogant or unprofessional, I mean it’s impossible to know really what happened without being in those rooms, but going into the combine there was a general sense that he had one or two teams picked out and I think priority no. 1 for the whole Sanders camp is to land with the Raiders.”

For months, Deion Sanders has been hinting that he was going to direct Shedeur away from certain organizations and the Raiders are widely believed to be a team he likes for his son.

The Sanders family has a known relationship Brady, and it wouldn’t be inconceivable that the sides could have a scheme worked out to help Shedeur’s chances of going to the Raiders.

”It’s not who I would like for him to play for. It’s a couple teams that I won’t allow him to play for,” the elder Sanders said in January on the Tamron Hall Show, and by default he would be directing Shedeur to certain organizations if he takes that approach.

Then on the Dan Patrick Show two weeks ago, Deion acknowledged he has been orchestrating draft matters for his son behind the scenes.

Rather than call out organizations publicly, Deion said he has already been in contact with teams he has concerns with.

“I’m going to lead them in the right direction,” Deion said about his sons to Patrick. “I would meet with [teams] behind closed doors. I would not call them out. I would not put them on front street and talk about their organization because people work too hard to make it right… I would meet with them privately and talk about my concerns so we could have an understanding.”

It’s all speculation at this point, but if Deion has been saying he was going to make an effort to put Shedeur in the best NFL situation he can, it’s not unreasonable to believe him.

And with that in mind, does anyone really believe Deion wants his son to go to the Titans, Giants or Browns?

The Titans, maybe. But not the other two teams based on the way they’ve been operating over the last few years… or in the Browns’ case, a lot longer than that.
