The Raiders have a 2-10 record going into the final month of the regular season, and for the first time in a long time they have been eliminated from playoff contention before the month of December.
For head coach Antonio Pierce, it’s been learning experience in his first full season in the big seat, and according to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, there’s a feeling around the league that the Raiders might part ways with Pierce after the season.
“There’s a lot of uncertainty certainly that’s being felt on the part of the coaching staff,” Breer said on the Thursday Night Football recap. “They’ve been given no assurances on 2025. There’s a lot of buzz league wide that Antonio Pierce could be one-and-done as a head coach.”
There have been a variety of reports around Pierce’s job status over the last few weeks, but there are a few reasons the decision-makers in the building might be inclined to give him another year.
Injuries have plagued the Raiders this season and the hiring of OC Luke Getsy essentially sabotaged an offense that was already expected to have its challenges. Davante Adams quit on the team and the quarterback group has not impressed outside of the Baltimore and Kansas City games.
“Now on the flip side, as you guys could see tonight, [Pierce] has the team playing very hard,” Breer continued. “They’ve gotten younger. They’ve gone from having the third oldest roster in the league last year, to the sixth youngest this year. Those young guys are developing. And the move to Scott Turner as OC seems to have really worked for him, but the one thing we don’t know is how involved Tom Brady would be in any sort of decision Mark Davis makes on this going forward.”
The good news with all the losing in Las Vegas is that the Raiders are currently sitting on the second-overall pick in the upcoming draft.
The Jaguars are the team ahead of the Raiders in the draft and they will face each other at Allegiant Stadium on December 22.
The loser of that game will likely be faced with a decision on which University of Colorado player to take with the first-overall pick.
Shedeur Sanders is considered by most to be the top quarterback in the 2025 class, but Travis Hunter looks like a generational talent at the WR/CB positions.

Smart decision! AP should be gone by the end of the season and most of the staff as well. The High School try didn’t work, time for real leadership. This is the NFL and as Jerry Granville one said, the NFL stands for “NOT FOR LONG” if you suck, you are gone!!! and yes AP you are not a good fit.
McDaniel was likely a Brady push. Just because you played doesn’t mean you know squat. Hell, even GM’s like Telesco are failures.
