The Raiders took some Twitter heat last week from a University of Kentucky assistant coach for drafting Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell over Kentucky DE Josh Allen.
Seven days later, it was Ferrell who made the game-saving run stop against the Carolina Panthers to seal the win.
In fact, not only did Ferrell (who bulked up significantly in the offseason) make the defensive play of the game, he played well enough to be the Raiders highest-graded defensive player, according to Pro Football Focus analytics. Allen, on the other hand, graded lower than 11 defensive players on the Jaguars with at least 10 snaps.
After a difficult rookie season, Ferrell was considered a “draft bust” by some. But he’s healthy this year and has noticeably added size and muscle. Ferrell was one of the team’s most improved players in training camp and certainly looked the part on Sunday.
Allen will have plenty of solid games this year, but Ferrell can play both the run and the pass and is a far more versatile player. Ferrell is a better fit for Paul Guenther’s defense and a year after passing on Allen, the Raiders shouldn’t have any regrets related last year’s draft… other than maybe giving up picks for Antonio Brown.

Sorry but I still take Josh over Ferrell cause there was a good Chance u could still have drafted Ferrell in late 1St RD.& if not Ud could’ve taken DR from Clemson if he was gone..2ND this Yr. they had chance to saw Up Ur LBs for 4/5 YRS.. they should’ve taken Chassion out LSU.!!& trade for the 5Times All Pro Left Tackle from the Redskins & all they had to give Up was 3RD pick which We 3 of.. How great does our OLINE look with him the an Our LB would look like with Chassion an Our DLine would look Nice with Josh an Either Ferrell or DT from Clemson last.. U compared one game to whole season last YR. an one game this Yr.. This Yr was more than baffling letting the Redskins OT Go when we had 3 Picks & letting Chassion go..when Arquat was Rated 81ST best player so which means we could have still got him an if not make a trade like the Steelers did..We SCREWED UP LAST YR AN THIS YR. PERIOD
