Raiders Expected to Release Veteran Cornerback After Effort Called into Question Again

It appears that Marcus Peters has finally worn out his welcome with the Raiders.

According to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, the 30 year-old cornerback is expected to be released after being benched against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday…

“[Antonio] Pierce benched cornerback Marcus Peters midway through the second quarter after the latest olé on a tackle attempt by the veteran. The two had a brief exchange on the sideline at halftime before Pierce walked away and Peters watched the second half by himself wearing a beanie.

Pierce wouldn’t go into detail on his decision, but there have been several instances this season nwhen it looked like Peters gave minimal effort on some plays, dating back to costly plays in the losses against the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.

Peters was almost cut earlier this season, according to team and league sources, and is not expected back when the team returns from its bye week.”

Additionally, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter also believes Peters has played in his last game with the Raiders…

”I will be shocked if he doesn’t get cut,” Hondo said in his Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast after the game. “I know for a fact that he almost got cut [in] early October.”

A video from the game showed at least one of the exchanges between Pierce and Peters on Sunday.

In the video Peters appears to be standing on the sideline, away from the rest of the players, and occasionally waiving his arms at Pierce before the head coach eventually walks away…

Logan Reever on Twitter: “Marcus Peters was standing alone at the 50 during the drive. Stayed there while the rest of the defense met on the bench after giving up that score.Peters and Antonio Pierce dapped each other up before halftime but looks like there was some disagreement in the conversation…. pic.twitter.com/EdvP1CCuUW / Twitter”

  1. They don’t need that type of ineffective, troublesome player. Now, Mark get a GM that can draft talent! And get a young up and coming HC, like Philly, Minnesota, Houston and Miami were able to do.
