Report Calls Raiders “Frontrunners” to Trade for Trey Hendrickson

Are the Raiders in the mix to trade for Bengals All-Pro defensive end Trey Hendrickson?

It sounds like they might be.

According to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, at least one NFL executive believes the Raiders are the frontrunners to get Hendrickson if the Bengals decide to trade him…

“In a conversation with an NFL executive on Tuesday, I was informed, ‘I have no doubt the Raiders are the frontrunners. Tom Brady and Mark Davis want to win now, and John (Spytek) has no fear when it comes to making bold moves. The kid (Hendrickson is young), that move is the mentality of Pete Carroll; he’s not afraid of anything that could improve the team.’

When I inquired about the potential cost of acquiring Hendrickson, the executive said, “From what I hear, the Bengals are seeking either multiple picks or a combination of a pick and a player. They aren’t particularly focused on one side of the ball, but their offense is exceptional, while their defense is (excrement). I would speculate that a player and a third-round pick would be sufficient to land him.”

As with any negotiation, nothing is done until it’s done. Trade conversations fall apart more times than they don’t. The important detail to Wednesday’s report is that the Raiders are apparently trying to make a move for Hendrickson.

According to reports earlier in the week, the Bengals have dropped their price a little on Hendrickson and it might not require a first-round pick to get the NFL’s reigning sack leader.

“What would it take to get a Trey Hendrickson trade done?” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero asked on Monday.

“Back before the draft, the Bengals had an offer that was on the table that was a second-round pick and change. At that time, they weren’t willing to engage with that,” Pelissero said. “They wanted a first rounder. My understanding is that the price has softened or at least changed a little bit. At this point the Bengals would want a player, somebody that could maybe replace some of the production they got from Trey Hendrickson, as well as a pick in the 2026 draft.”

There are teams that might need a player like Hendrickson more than the Raiders, but in a division with Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Bo Nix, the idea of an adding another All-Pro defensive end has to be enticing for Raiders GM John Spytek.

The Raiders are one of a handful of teams that could easily fit Hendrickson’s contract under the salary cap, and it sounds like Spytek and company are doing what they can to try to make it happen.

  1. In all reality I don’t think the raiders want to win badly enough to trade away quality draft picks they need for future investments for home grown talents. I can’t see them parting with Coonce even though he’s not one of their guys .

  2. Hendrickson is better than Koonce but not for anything above a 4th and maybe Koonce. And not more than 3 yr with 2 guaranteed and definitely not for anything close to 30 since we would have to give up a pick and player. If anything higher than these modest terms than no dice. Don’t act like every other Raider Front Office.

  3. I really like Hendrickson but I also haven’t seen Koonce complete talent when healthy. I say we just bite the bullet and screw Jerry and get parsons. Sure we will give up picks but we still have Koonce as the other bookend. Scary defense.

  4. We REALLY need a CB1 a lot more than a DE. Plus can the team afford to have so much cap $ tied up in the DE position?
