With the news on Wednesday that the Indianapolis Colts have named Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback, the first question that comes to mind is… what will they do with Anthony Richardson?
It’s clear already that Richardson isn’t happy with the Colts’ decision, and there has already been speculation that the Raiders might be interested in the former first round pick.
Pete Carroll was impressed with Richardson coming out of the college, and Aidan O’Connell hasn’t looked great in two preseason games.
With those details in mind, could the Raiders be inclined to look into a potential trade with the Colts for Richardson?
At least one media personality on the team’s flagship radio station thinks the Raiders would be wise to avoid that conversation.
“If in fact [the Colts] do trade for him, or they make him available, I just don’t see it, and I don’t think it’s a good decision for the Raiders,” Q Myers said on the Locked on Raiders podcast on Wednesday. “He still has not developed into an accurate quarterback. He still does not have that much experience.”
Myers went on to say he has concerns about Richardson’s experience at the quarterback position and isn’t comfortable with his injury history after two NFL seasons.
“I don’t think that he’s ever going to be a franchise quarterback,” Myers continued. “I hate that for him. I don’t root for anyone to lose. I just don’t see the mechanics. I don’t see the development.”
“And worst-case scenario, I don’t see the availability. He’s just not available. And a lot of times, even his rookie year, when he only played four games, that’s because he tried to run and tried to run guys over like he did at Florida. You can’t do that in the National Football League.”

It would be absolutely crazy to go after Richardson!
Coach Pete seems to see something. He has turned around qb’s in his history. What would a trade cost us? Time to maybe give it a shot. Would be better than keeping leadfoot(intercepted) O’Connell around. Just saying.
I mean, risking Richardson’s health by running power with him like Josh Allen is one thing of you’ve invested the #4 pick on him. But if you’ve traded a Day 3 pick for him, why not? I don’t mind the idea at all. Design a package of plays for him right now, and behind the scenes, try to coach him up on everything else.
The history of guys with accuracy this bad improving is pretty dismal, but maybe he can be a Taysom Hill type. Hill has earned over 50 million dollars not being a real QB. But he just finds ways to contribute. Richardson is more gifted, athletically. If he would accept the role, he could help a team even if he never becomes a true QB.
Exactly, Pete sees things that we don’t obviously. He has some kind of special project for him. He thinks he has the physical, mental components that make him not a rebuild but a re-adjust to a system. Hope it works coach Pete, go get him.👍
