Could a change at quarterback be coming for the Raiders?
Antonio Pierce wouldn’t rule out a change at quarterback on Monday and the Raiders first-year head coach told members of the media that he wanted to “evaluate everything from yesterday” before making a decision at the position.
Gardner Minshew was one of the heroes of last week’s game in Baltimore, but he has struggled to find rhythm in any games outside of the fourth quarter against the Ravens.
Against the Panthers, Minshew was 18-28, 214 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception. Minshew has appeared uncomfortable in Luke Getsy’s offense, and Aidan O’Connell may have gotten the attention of the coaching staff with his stat line in the fourth quarter against the Panthers: 9-12, 82 passing yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.
Pierce is going to do what he wants, but once you open the door to a quarterback change, it’s difficult to double down in the opposite direction. At the very least, Minshew is on a very short leash going into week 4 against the Browns.
Going back to the preseason, there weren’t many who believed Minshew was on track to get the job, but after a late interception from O’Connell against the Cowboys, the coaching staff made the decision to go with Minshew.
The potential problem for Pierce and the coaching staff is that if they decide to start O’Connell, what happens if O’Connell doesn’t play any better?
At that point, the message you send the team is essentially, ‘OK, guys. We’re going to have to find a way to move forward and win games with a quarterback we don’t have confidence in.’

Menshew is not the man that needs to be back there
Happy feet, bad choices, inaccuracy, strange turnovers & a slow mental clock
The Raiders need a sharp shooter, not a gun slinger
Oh and they also need an offensive line, offensive coordinator & a HC that wants to win by more than 3 points & the ball as clock expires
You should have stuck it out with Rich, we’d be rebuilding in year 3 now, seems like same old shi+ every year, it’s mentally draining to watch so much talent just not into it. Another disappointment
Unfortunately, the Raiders are still a few key players away from contention, compounded significantly by the QB situation, followed by an anemic run game. Zamir White is no Josh Jacobs. Offensive line is still weak, but could improve as the year goes by, like they did last year.
One of the biggest problems is OC Getsy. I was shocked when they hired him. He failed in Chicago, and was most likely successful in Green Bay due to Rodgers, Adams and a host of other quality players and coaches.
Too much turnover in coaches and GM’s. It’s like a merry-go-round in Las Vegas. Maybe it’s time for Mark Davis to leave the carnival. Too many bad decisions.
Well … there’s always next year! (where have I heard that before?)
Iknow were only 3 weeks in, but I made the prediction the raiders would go 6-11 or 7-10. The problem they have is they don’t have a franchise qb. The last franchise qb they had was Rich Gannon and that was 20t years ago. I think a qb switch every week depending on how good the qb plays. The detroit lions did that I believe in 1990 I think.
As a lifelong Raiders fan I hope that Pierce is not tanking the season to be able to draft Shedeur Sanders. I know Pierce has some dog in him and passion for football so I can’t be sure if my thoughts but losing to Carolina makes me wonder. Carolina was not supposed to win a game this season especially versus the Raiders. Now we got Cleveland this week, and whether it’s Minshew or O’Connell if we lose to the Browns I’m gonna feel even more stronger that Shedeur Sanders is the reason why. What Pierce isn’t taking into consideration is the Coach Prime is gonna take his job and Pierce is gonna be left unemployed. So if I was Pierce going forward I’d be more focused on winning and not looking ahead to next season. Unless he thinks he’s gonna be head coach if the Raiders do draft Shedeur Sanders. However it’s been put out on front street already that 99-1 odds are Prime Time is coaching wherever his plays next year. I don’t doubt that since whoever drafts in the first 4 picks of the draft sucked *** and a new coach won’t be outta the question. I hate being wrong but in this case I hope I am and my Raiders find a way to turn this season into a winning season and Pierce stays at the helm cuz I like Coach Pierce going forward. GO RAIDERS!!! #commitmenttoexcellence
