After Sunday’s loss to the Panthers, Antonio Pierce said that certain players were making “business decisions” late in the game and that he was going to make business decisions in return.
Piece didn’t specifically name any players, but former player and podcast host Pat McAfee thinks one of the culprits was Jack Jones.
McAfee said it was an unusually strong statement for a head coach to make about a player.
“We will let you know that within a locker room, anytime somebody calls out somebody’s business decision being made, and it doesn’t work out good… not good,” McAfee said on his weekday show. “That is a very slanderous thing to say to somebody.”
“[To say] ‘we’re making business decisions out here?’ That is a big punch right to the balls. That is a massive shot,” McAfee continued. “So then obviously you think to yourself, ‘What were the plays that he is talking about?’ The internet found it. There was a situation in the fourth quarter with Jack Jones… here it is in the fourth quarter… and that’s what a business decision looks like.”
If Jones was one of the players that Pierce was talking about, it will be interesting to see how the third-year cornerback responds. Jones was released by the Patriots last year because of character concerns, but Pierce has a unique relationship with Jones that goes back to when Jones was in high school.
Jones is considered by most to be the top cornerback on the team, and the Raiders don’t have a lot of depth at the position.
Now that Pierce has spoken publicly on the matter, he’ll have to follow through with some kind of recourse toward the players that didn’t play hard to the end of the game. It shouldn’t be hard to figure out who he was talking about, but for now, it looks like Jones will be somewhere on the list.
Here’s the play in question as pointed out by CBS Sports analyst Mike Renner…
x: @raidersbeat
Pierce is not without blame (calling time outs and pointing on forth and six without enough time remaining to score later)and he did it in two games (in the pre-season!
Bennet made one play in man coverage the entire game. Sam Webb is probably the best corner on the team, AND the best ST gunner. Buried. Amari Gainer and Burney the best OLB’s, buried. T Wilson can’t even get off on the snap at DE. Absolutely atrocious. Played as many snaps as anyone else. Graham ran the same defense pre AP taking over last season, and the results. Maxx’s injury rendered him ineffective. Should I go on?
Getsky is only making Adams happy. Zeus isn’t the same guy he was. Mattison should be rb1. End the OL zone blocking scheme. AP wants run first offense. Balanced is what you need. Tuckers needs to stretch the defense several times a game.
Yeah there were many that made that same business Decission ! Jones was far from the only one ! You watch that game and pay attention to the way those guys were playing ! But obviously what he means Business Decission is multiple players if not the whole team were paid off to throw that game ! Google sports betting and check out how much money was made by people betting against the raiders across the 100 + apps there are in the play store for sports betting !! You’ll see exactly why the Panthers dominated the Raiders yesterday ! Last year they called it “scripted” but there’s probably not an actual script ,but these players are being either made or paid to throw games !!! Tell me this ,other than yesterday have you ever seen Maxx Crosby standing there with his hands on his hips looking hung over or lazy ?? Cuz I haven’t !! Just another thing that I love thats Corrupted and fake these days it’s all controlled !! Rich men getting Richer !! Somebody prove me wrong ! Please !!
It would be a shame if Jack Jones was one of the players Pierce was talking about.
Pierce has always been his strongest supporter. So if Jones was one of the players. I would think Pierce would view this as a betrayal of his belief in Jones as a player.
We all remember the great plays by Jack Jones against KC and SD last year. Anytime you pick-six Mahomes AND Herbert, you are a star. But on THAT play? He was no star.
If there’s anyone who took “business decisions” then AP needs to look at Zamir White due to him having Trent Richardson vision. How you have only 30 rushing yds for a whole 60 minutes? Second should be Luke Masterson with his sloth movements. We wanted Amari Gainer so bad soooooo why wasn’t his number called? Masterson is nothing more than a special teams player at this point of his career. Either Amari or Burney should’ve took Deablo’s spot.
