Kubiak halftime comments created headlines this week
Raiders head coach Gary Kubiak isn’t known for giving great sound bites, but he dropped one at halftime of Sunday’s game that definitely caught the CBS broadcast team and most of the football universe by surprise.
Generally, when coaches head to the locker room at halftime, they don’t share many interesting comments with the broadcast team, but on Sunday, Kubiak flat-out told CBS sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson the Raiders were going to win the game.
For Kubiak, the comment seemed out of character, but J.J. Watt said during the broadcast that the first-year head coach probably just let his real personality come out.
“It felt like one of those moments for a young coach where he almost didn’t know what he was saying in the moment,” Watt said during the CBS television broadcast on Sunday.
“But he was that confidence and I think maybe that’s who he is when he’s in that locker room. He’s a very tight-lipped guy for the most part, but I think… he let it slip. He let the real personality slip.
Patrick Mahomes’ wife taunted the Raiders head coach after the game
The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes posted a series of photos on Instagram from Allegiant Stadium on Sunday night with the caption, “We’re winning. We’re gonna win the game.”
Brittany Mahomes’ comments were clearly at jab at Kubiak for his halftime comments.
Kubiak’s prediction would have come off better if the Raiders had won, but his words offered a glimpse into what he is like behind closed doors.
Last week, Connor Heyward told Kirk Morrison that Kubiak’s preparation has the locker room believing they are going to win every game, and Kubiak clearly believed the Raiders were going to beat the Chiefs on Sunday.
Even with an untimely fumble and a few breakdowns late in the game, the Raiders played well enough to win on Sunday and if nothing else, they proved they can play with the best teams in the league.
Raiders’ schedule doesn’t get any easier this month
After a tough loss to the Chiefs, wins aren’t going to come any easier in October as Kubiak and the Raiders face the Patriots, Bills and Rams in the next three weeks.
As of today, the Kubiak and company are 3.5-point underdogs to the Patriots this week, 4.5-point underdogs to the Bills and 7.5-point underdogs to the Rams.
