Jackson Powers-Johnson left Monday’s practice with an undisclosed injury, and it sounds like the Raiders’ third-year guard might have lost some ground to his backup in the last 24 hours.
Since the start of training camp, Powers-Johnson has been in a neck-and-neck battle with Caleb Rogers at the right guard position, and Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter believes Rogers might have edged past Rogers on the depth chart since Monday.
The Raiders had their first joint practice with the Houston Texans on Tuesday and despite a tough test against one of the best defenses in the league, Carpenter said Rogers held his own against the Texans’ first team defense.
“Caleb Rogers was excellent [today]. Was he perfect? No. But he was excellent,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast on Tuesday.
“I told you yesterday, even before JPJ went off the field, I thought was Caleb played really well. I told you coming into the year I expected Caleb Rogers to start games. I still expect that. I think it’s a battle and the way he played yesterday head-to-head and then today against this Houston Texans defense… I would clearly have to tell you I think Caleb Rogers is in the driver’s seat to win this job.”
“I thought Caleb Rogers was a big winner today.”
Raiders’ offensive line getting close to being set?
If Rogers wins the job at right guard, it sounds like the O-line in Las Vegas might be close to being finalized.
On his podcast on Monday, Carpenter said he believed four of the five offensive line positions were completely solidified.
“Spencer Burford, there’s no battle for his spot. It’s his. Same with Delmar ‘D.J.’ Glaze, but I think Burford has been even more outstanding,” Carpenter said on Monday’s podcast.
“So you’ve got four spots on this offensive line right now completely solidified.”
It’s possible Carpenter was just saying the Raiders were going to be fine at four of the five offensive line positions, but it sounded more like he thinks the starters are close to being figured out.
Considering starters don’t generally a lot in the final preseason games of the year, it would make sense for the coaching staff to not make many changes to the starting offensive line after Thursday’s preseason game against the Texans – especially if the starters play reasonably well.
And for what it’s worth, it sounds like Powers-Johnson is not going to be available for Thursday’s game.

Lmao
Really. Hondo has as much credibility as a corpse. DOA.
yeah cause you are there everyday watching practice and talking to people in the Raiders organization and he is sitting in his moms basement being a keyboard warrior.
He’s an imbecile
These guys should have traded Jackson this off season. It’s obvious they don’t like him so you trade him at his most valuable.
