Raiders Insider Describes Play that Resulted in Ashton Jeanty Leg Injury

Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty

Ashton Jeanty made news on Sunday afternoon, and it was not the kind of news the Raiders needed with the season opener just 21 days away.

Jeanty went down in practice on Sunday with an apparent knee injury after a collision with second-year cornerback Darien Porter.

This was Silver & Black Sports Networks’ Jesse Merrick on the play that resulted in Jeanty’s injury…

“Ashton Jeanty left today’s practice with an apparent right leg injury. He was running a route, tried to dive for a ball. It was low. He and Darien Porter collided in some way, shape or form, and Jeanty laid on the ground for a bit.

Obviously, the whole team went silent. Jeanty got up. Had to be helped off by two trainers, putting no weight on that right leg as he was helped off the field. The stopped the music. Everybody on the team took a knee and the entire team said a prayer for Jeanty as he was helped off the field.

Obviously, a really somber moment for this team… It didn’t look good. We’re no doctors. We’ll kind of have to wait and see what kind of updates we can get from the team, but that’s where things stand for now.”

For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reported that it was Kirk Cousins who made the throw to Jeanty.

McFadden confirmed that Jeanty dove for a low throw from Cousins, adding that the second-year running back landed awkwardly on the turf after the collision.

According to reports, the Raiders have declined to comment on Jeanty’s injury, and it could be another day or two before the team officially comments on the situation.

  1. Obviously not happy he’s hurt but just more proof it was stupid to take him over Membou. We could be building a great OL but nope.

  2. Get Jordan Meredith off this team and go sign Mekhi Becton to a one year prove it deal. Protecting Mendoza at all costs needs to be priority #1.

  3. It happened in the indoor practice facility. Indoor practice facility is turf not natural grass. Why is the indoor facility turf? This is what happens on turf.

    1. Well, if this true, then absolutely makes no sense to be running these kind of drills on that field. This is completely no contact practice facility. Looks like this Jeanty pick is destined to be jinxed. Next man up
