The Raiders are awaiting word on the severity of the leg injury Ashton Jeanty suffered at Sunday’s practice, but in the immediate aftermath of the news, there hasn’t been a lot of optimism.
No one has been willing to speculate on the injury but based on the response of the team at practice, it sounds like the players and coaches know Jeanty’s injury has the potential to be serious.
To this point, there has been no video released of the play, and first-hand accounts have been a little conflicting.
One report said Jeanty collided with Darien Porter on the play, but Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter said he doesn’t believe Jeanty made contact with Porter.
“Ashton Jeany left practice about two-thirds of the way through practice with an injury to his right leg. Don’t know if it was a knee, an ankle, a leg… it wouldn’t be fair for me to speculate, but he went down with a right leg injury,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“He was out in a pass route being covered by Darien Porter. It did not appear to be any collision. Kirk [Cousins] had thrown him a ball, and he dove for it and got up and couldn’t put pressure on it… I don’t know if he couldn’t or not, but [he] didn’t put pressure on it as they took him off the field. I am not a doctor, but I will tell you, though, I think the mood completely changed in practice.”
The Raiders have not commented on Jeanty’s injury, but they should have an idea of what they are dealing with by now.
Look for information to slip through the cracks (probably to a national insider) much sooner than later.
