Raiders Insider Paints Less-Than-Optimistic Outlook on Maxx Crosby’s Future in Las Vegas

The Raiders secured a win and the first overall pick in the 2026 draft on Sunday, and the next order of business for the organization is going to be a decision on Pete Carroll’s future.

Once the head coaching situation is sorted out, the Maxx Crosby situation will be waiting and there is a chance the Raiders’ All Pro defender has played his final game in Silver & Black.

Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter talked about Crosby’s future on Sunday and he didn’t sound particularly optimistic that Crosby will be back in Las Vegas next year.

“I think it is very fair to say that if you think it is a 100 percent slam dunk that [Crosby] will be back with the Raiders next year, I do not agree with you,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“I know that Maxx loves Raider Nation. I know he loves the Raiders organization, but I’m telling you, I will have a lot to say whenever it is determined what’s going to happen. But for right now, I can just tell you, last year before he re-signed with the Raiders, he made it clear it wasn’t about money. It was about championships. He wanted to go get championships and it wasn’t about rebuilding,” Carpenter continued.

“The Raiders are in a complete rebuild. They told him they were going after championships this year because they did not correctly assess the situation, and they didn’t. And if you only go off of what was said last year, and I’m not only going off of what was said last year, but any reasonable person who did or who does, can clearly see that there are issues there. I am, I’ll get more into that later, but I wanted to touch on that, and I will get more into it later, but sooner rather than later.”

Similar to what FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer said two weeks ago, Carpenter hasn’t been shy about the fact that he talks to Crosby, so it’s probably fair to assume he knows more than what he said on his podcast.

In fact, Carpenter acknowledged that he has more to get into later on Crosby, so it will be interesting to see what else he shares when he decides to do that.

The Raiders could agree to a trade involving Crosby in the next two months, but nothing can be official until March So it’s likely the situation between Crosby and team could drag out for a while – although Carpenter did say he has more information coming “sooner rather than later.”

  1. If he were traded, it would be right before the draft. I hope he stays, he is the pillar for the defense. I would not trade him! He is an all pro. We don’t need another Tyree Wilson or Cle Ferrell.

  2. I wouldn’t trade him but Hondo and his “inside” knowledge is annoying. Guy acts likes he’s close confidants w/every major player in the league
