The Raiders are focused on getting Klint Kubiak hired as their next coach, but in the next few weeks, Kubiak and his superiors in Las Vegas are going to have to address a major situation with Maxx Crosby.
On Wednesday, FOX Sports insider Jay Glazer dropped the news that he expects Crosby to be traded before the draft and based on Glazer’s report, it sounds like Crosby will be the one seeking a trade.
Crosby hasn’t publicly addressed his status with the Raiders, but according to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, Glazer was accurate in his reporting on Crosby and at least part of Crosby’s frustration has stemmed from the way the Raiders communicated with him during the decision to shut him down for the final two games of the season.
“I can tell you this. Jay Glazer talked about it yesterday about how angry Maxx was. I can you that is 100 percent accurate and there is a lot of details that if Maxx is traded, I’m going to give you about the process. How he found out, how he responded. There was a lot of anger in the building not just from Maxx,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.
“There were other people that were very upset and angry at how Maxx found out about the benching. All of it. I didn’t get into it at the time. Just like I didn’t get into a lot… before the preseason game with Davante [Adams],” Carpenter continued. “But if Maxx is moved and I believe it’s a higher chance that he is than he comes back, I will absolutely go into those details. There’s no reason to do it while he’s in the building. That would not be fair to him or all parties involved. But once he’s gone it won’t matter.”
“I think it lends to understanding the disfunction that has been around the Raiders and all of it. I supported the Raiders sitting Maxx. How they did it was terrible and that’s part of the learning curve that this franchise is going through right now.”
Crosby’s situation isn’t the same as Derek Carr’s in 2022, but it sounds like the Raiders botched another late-season benching with one of their superstars.
There is a new cast of decision makers in Las Vegas since 2022, but the vibe around Crosby’s situation is starting to feel similar to Carr’s final days with the organization.
As Carpenter pointed out, the Raiders don’t deserve criticism for the decision to sit Crosby (they had to keep him healthy and they had to lose games), but there is a proper way to communicate with a franchise player like Crosby, and it doesn’t sound like that’s what the Raiders did.
Until there is a resolution to Crosby’s status with the Raiders, there will be speculation around his trade value and Glazer said on Wednesday that Crosby has more value than Micah Parsons.
That’s a strong statement from Glazer, but he’s one of the best-connected insiders in the industry.
Ian Rapoport is also well-connected, and he isn’t buying the notion that Crosby is worth two first-round picks and a player. On Wednesday afternoon, Rapoport said he thinks Crosby’s trade value will be closer to a late first-round pick.
“It’s not going to be Micah Parsons [compensation] because [Parsons] was younger,” Rapoport said on Raider Nation Radio’s Unnecessary Roughness with Q Myers.
“But, you know, a late [first round pick] would be real. Because the Raiders, thankfully, were bad enough, they don’t have to trade to get up to [the first pick]. They got it. It’s all just capital. If that’s what it was, they’re not going to replace Maxx Crosby, even if they hit on a great pass rusher, they’re still not going to replace him. What you do it, you replace him with a player and then use the money to go get other good players and really build up the foundation of the team. For sure you could make an argument that trading him makes sense.”

Saying the word superstar, and, car in the same paragraph is felonious
Take a moment, chill out, let’s get the coach in the building. One thing at a time.It might just be the best thing for both sides, but that’s on the basis that Maxx wants out, or the organization wants to move on. We don’t know either of those answers, we are reacting to someone trying to get attention on Superbowl Radio Row, maybe it’s legit, maybe he’s testing the reaction. It’s an ideal time to do just that. A retooling of the roster, is a two to three year deal to get into playoff contention. If Maxx is here, we are better for it. If he want’s out, then we need to get better for it, certainly not immediately, but we need pieces that down the road will be.
We had more production across the entire defensive line in the last game than we’ve had all season.
Coincidence that Crosby was out?
Or something else?
Chill yes. But look at the big picture when truth or rumor raises its head.
I have access to the “all 22 view” but i haven’t watched much. I will have to do that with sundays open now. He doesn’t have the body mass, like Parsons or Garrett, kind of concerns me. He’s a warrior, but playing hurt, which it seems was every week last year, means it’s not a complete player.
Any offensive lineman that has quick feet and can stay in front of Crosby owns him. His lower body strength, pretty much equates to what you said about his body mass. He doesn’t have the lower body strength to push a tackle back into the pocket unless he catches the lineman off balance.
I am tired of hearing about Maxx, and that he might leave. Go if you feel like it. This whole mess with him being pissed off cause he couldn’t play is horseshit. Raiders had 2 wins at that point. Hell go and play and get injured, and be out the whole season. Dallas is willing to give 2 first rounders, snd a defensive line plsyer
