Raiders Interest In Doug Martin Isn’t A Good Sign For Marshawn Lynch

It’s starting to feel like Marshawn Lynch’s time with the Raiders may be coming to an end.

Lynch is still on the roster, but Jon Gruden’s reported interest in free agent running back Doug Martin isn’t a good sign that the team is confident Lynch will be back.

It is possible the Raiders are using Martin as leverage to get Lynch to accept a paycut, but there are so many considerations to bringing Lynch back that his return has always seemed like a little bit of a long shot.

Lynch is still the Raiders best option at running back in terms of talent (does anyone really think Martin is better?), but it probably isn’t to Lynch’s benefit at this point that he can’t meet with the team.

For Marshawn to return, Jon Gruden would need to be convinced of what he’s getting in Lynch – and even then the team would probably want the soon-to-be-32-year-old to take a paycut.

Maybe a return will work out, but right now the odds don’t look like they are trending in the right direction.

And hopefully the odds that Martin will be Lynch’s replacement are even worse.

  1. Martin is no better than Richard right now, IMO. Washington is worthless. No idea what we have in Elijah Hood, but doesn’t seem like much (another worthless pick up by RM).
Probably best to drop Lynch and use that money on the defense, then grab a RB in the draft……a lot cheaper

  2. Lynch doesn’t need the money. If he still wants to play he will be back. It’s as simple as that. They don’t need to use Doug Martin as leverage for anything. Besides Martin isn’t that great of a back anyways. He’s had two productive years since 2012. Two good years in six seasons. Doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in my opinion.

  3. I think you are 180 degrees off base on this one. In fact I’m going to declare that Marshawn is behind this move. Think about it. Doug Martin really from Oakland doe.

  4. If Doug Martin is signed then it might be the end of Lynch. That would also mean RB like Chubbs in the 2nd round. Raiders need a GL Short yardage RB. 3 guys the size of Martin, Richard and Washington wont cut it.

  5. I think y’all are missing the point that if we sign martin it’s because Gruden is trying to replicate his version of Wheatly/Garner
