Raiders Plan Is To Move First-Round Pick Alex Leatherwood Back To Right Tackle “At Some Point”

After four weeks of struggling at right tackle, the Raiders moved first-round pick Alex Leatherwood to guard and, so far, the decision has been a good one.

All four of Leatherwood’s worst-graded games this year (Pro Football Focus) were in weeks 1 through 4, and he has shown a steady improvement at guard ever since. On Thanksgiving, Leatherwood had arguably his best game of the season and it’s fair to wonder if the Raiders are considering keeping him there.

Time will tell, but it’s sounds like the official plan is to move Leatherwood back to right tackle when the offensive line is healthy again – whenever that might be.

“The reason that the Raiders moved Alex Leatherwood inside to guard was because they soured on Eluemanor starting. Leatherwood will return to tackle at some point,” Tafur said this week in The Athletic.

There would be no benefit at this point in the season (and Leatherwood’s career) to announcing a permanent position change, but there has to be a feeling among the coaching staff that Leatherwood might be better suited to play guard. Maybe one more run at tackle before the Raiders think about moving him to guard the way they did with Robert Gallery years ago.

For now, though, it doesn’t matter. The Raiders need help at guard and for the most part, Leatherwood has filled in admirably.

      1. To be fair, Jason is an idiot…so it stands to reason that his statements always will be idiotic! Hi Jason….. You douchebag 👋

  1. All these “negatives” on Derek Carr, sound like the same comments on Kenny “the Snake” throughout the 70’s. I hope D.C. ends up doing the same thing as Stabler did, making all the negatives shutting down once and for all.

  2. There lies the problem with the Raiders. Every athlete has a strong point. Play him at a position that highlights that strength. NOT where you have a need. Raiders have drafted and picked up free agents and turned around and put them at positions that don’t highlight their strengths. You can’t make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Coach Belichick is a master at getting the most out of his players.

  3. Jason, go back to whatever hole you crawled out of. Let us true fans have a break from your ignorance. The letters from your name say it all.
