Brent Musburger Wishes Raiders Had Suspended Gruden, Doesn’t Think Past “Stupidity” Should Have Ruined His Career

Raiders’ voice Brent Musburger called it a “professional hit job” that forced Jon Gruden to resign from the Raiders and in hindsight, Musburger said he wishes Gruden wouldn’t have been forced to leave his job.

“Hindsight is 20/20, but if we look at Ezekiel Elliot, he was suspended for six games for sexual transgressions,” Musburger told JT The Brick on Wednesday.

“I wish that coach Gruden had been suspended for four, five, or six games. But again, I want to be perfectly clear about this, it’s the ultimate second guess by me. I didn’t think of it at the time. I don’t think that Jon’s career should be ruined by his stupidity. It had been so long ago. I just don’t think we need to ‘out’ people for that, but so be it. The Raiders will have to pick up and go forward and we’ll see what happens.”

When the Gruden emails were initially released, the Raiders were met with differing degrees of outrage, but a number of reports have hinted that it was the NFL that was making the strongest push for Raiders’ owner Mark Davis to take aggressive action against Gruden.

The damage is done now and the Raiders have moved on, but it will be interesting to see where the legal battle goes from here. Some believe settlement money won’t be enough to satisfy Gruden in his recent lawsuit filed against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell. The opportunity to destroy a few careers as collateral might be the end game that Gruden is hoping for most.

  1. I’m not a fan of our former coach but it sucks that is today’s society you can’t speak your mind regardless of how foul your mind is you should be able to say what you want to say about whoever you want to see about the founding presidents would be rolling over in their graves at today’s events

    1. What happened to Gruden is a perfect example of collateral damage, misdirrection, and misappropriation of public scrutiny. Its a witch hunt. The initial target is the WFT’s organization. A shell game that redirects public opinion on a collection of dated views of prejudice does not warrent a verdict of condemned racism.
Gruden made insensitive comments. Who doesnt? Its obvious the leaks were intended to harm an otherwise credible career. Cancel culture needs a bad guy. Now the focus is no longer on the real problem. The WFT organization. This curve ball landed in Vegas. Nicely played.

    2. Perfectly put an its the truth …What this country has become is sad …They have put Gender,Race and sexual preference in higher esteem and moved the economy, safety of the country and foreign policy way down the list …
This isnt the 1950s anymore people … We can all drink out of the same water fountain…Wake up !!We have gotten to the point if we say thats a nice dress we lose our jobs for sexual harassment …If we stop BLM from burning down stores we are called Racist or white supremacist !! This is sad …

  2. I agree. A long suspension would have been better than a forced resignation. Let also remember that Carl Nasib was on the roster and was not waived, released or cut. People mature. I’m quite sure Gruden did also.

    REHIRE GRUDEN!

    1. Yes i belive that would be the right move first for now. But if both can get on the same pages which may be not allowed by the NFL offices they sorry they made a mistake but good luck on that but yes must move forward ok with some one new a up comeing career with strong goal of super bowl and making a name for them self

    2. Lets be honest if Nassib was waived the NFL would have roasted as would the lgbtq ….Oh by the way they hate Jon G for saying Queers hmmmm double standard I guess cause the Q in lgbtq refers to themselves as Queers …How interesting !!!

  3. I agree. A long suspension would have been better than a forced resignation. Let also remember that Carl Nasib was on the roster and was not waived, released or cut. People mature. I’m quite sure Gruden did also.

    REHIRE GRUDEN TODAY!

  4. The right decision was made. He spoke his mind never thinking it would come out. There is no room for racists like him no matter when they were made. His statements were deplorable, ignorant, and a continued example of what some people think of Blacks, especially men.

  5. Naw, that’s excuses. He deserved what kapernick got. If he didn’t, that proves the point, its a good ole boys club.

  6. The question is why did NFL a n d Raider legal teams not meet, consult and listen to Coach G, Davis, the other recipients and the affected ppl of interest named as targets of these emails/texts? We all know innocent until proven guilty. The prevailing attitudes then and now should have been taken into consideration. Maturity was not evident in this case and it smells like another show of power no matter which side you’re on. Myself, i bleed Oakland and as AL always did….give him a 2nd chance. Aloha bitches!

  7. We have not heard the last of Chucky, I believe. I think he’ll get the last laugh against the N.F.L. commission.

  8. Gruden is gone and the team is better off for it. I’m glad he’s gone but I still wish him success with his lawsuit.

  9. Sad that some people think morality is less important than saving the job of a rich person. Gruden deserved worse than what he got. I have children to raise and they should not be subjected to that kind of thinking or comments in the workplace or anywhere else. White privilege tends to blind people to others perspective and pain. You can say whatever you want, but then you have to accept the consequences for your words. That’s why you can’t threaten to kill the president with impunity.

  10. I was curious if you ever considered changing the page layout of your website? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say. But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better. Youve got an awful lot of text for only having 1 or 2 pictures. Maybe you could space it out better?

  11. Usually I don’t learn article on blogs, but I wish to say that this write-up very compelled me to check out and do so! Your writing taste has been surprised me. Thank you, very nice post.
