Raiders Reportedly Blocked Patrick Graham from Interviewing for Another Defensive Coordinator Position

The Raiders made news last week when it was reported that they are allowing their coaches to look for other jobs.

The report, which came from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicated that the Raiders would not block their coaches from interviewing with other teams while they search for their next head coach…

“At a team meeting this week, Raiders coaches and staffers were told that they would not be blocked from looking for other jobs but that the organization wanted to be kept in the loop on any potential opportunities.”

Five days later, a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said the Raiders received a request from another team to interview Patrick Graham for a defensive coordinator opening, and the Raiders blocked Graham from the interview.

Ian Rapoport on Twitter: “#Raiders respected DC Patrick Graham received a request to interview for a defensive coordinator job, source said, which was blocked by Las Vegas. The Raiders likely will allow the new head coach a decision on inherited staff members. / Twitter”

Raiders respected DC Patrick Graham received a request to interview for a defensive coordinator job, source said, which was blocked by Las Vegas. The Raiders likely will allow the new head coach a decision on inherited staff members.

So what is the significance of Rapoport’s report?

At minimum, it shows that the Raiders understand the importance of keeping Graham and it probably means that Jim Harbaugh, if hired by the Raiders, would be open to the idea of keeping Graham.

As for Antonio Pierce, we know that he would want to keep Graham on his staff and the fact that the Raiders aren’t letting Graham look for other jobs has to be a positive sign for Pierce’s chances of being retained.

The Raiders have a lot of big decisions to make in the coming weeks, but it appears for now that the team can take their time in the interview process without fear of losing Graham.

  1. In terms of our coaching staff, I believe the pieces are in place. Mark must look within; we may need a new offensive coordinator and, of course, a franchise quarterback. AP is the guy, and Harbaugh has a Steve Spurrier vibe to him, and we could end up like the Redskins with him trying to create a “Michigan West,” which does not work well in the pros. Chip Kelly is a diva in that he believes he is more innovative than anyone else and has run Philadelphia into the ground during his tenure. Maintain simplicity.

  2. Mark Davis you did enough, and a good discussion when you fire your mistake . Now Jim harbaugh is a bad move. he has never won a national championship, or a Super Bowl for that matter. Harbaugh come to your dam sense. John Madden line backer. Coach so silly let the misfits rise. Don’t lose Anthony

  3. Mark Davis you did enough, stop now , a good discussion when you fire your mistake . Now Jim harbaugh is a bad move he has never won a national championship, or a Super Bowl for that matter. Harbaugh Is a Chicago bear blood. Harbaugh Really, Come to your dam sense let history repeat , Now John Madden was a line backer. And a Coach before the god father promoted John . So silly let the misfits rise. Don’t lose Anthony

  5. “ it probably means that Jim Harbaugh, if hired by the Raiders, would be open to the idea of keeping Graham.” Huh?

How does it mean that exactly? The only way would have been for Davis to call Harbaugh and ask him if he’s open to keeping Graham when we hire you, very doubtful.
