Raiders Salary Cap Situation is About to Get a Significant Boost Ahead of Free Agency

Free agency is just over a week away and the Raiders are gearing up for what could be a very busy March.

GM Tom Telesco told reporters at the combine last week that he will have to lean more on free agency in his first year with the Raiders than he would like – and that’s an indication the Raiders are probably going to be more active than usual in free agency.

As of now, the Raiders have just over $40 million in cap room, but that will change when Jimmy Garoppolo and Hunter Renfrow are released.

“If and when the Raiders cut quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and receiver Hunter Renfrow, [the Raiders will] have about $62.4 million in cap space,” The Athletic’s Vic Tafur reported this week.

If they get to $62 million in cap room, the Raiders will have the fifth-most cap room in the league, according to Over the Cap. Only the Commanders ($91.5 million), Patriots ($88.7 million), Titans ($75.8 million), and Texans ($70 million) would have more.

The Raiders don’t have any obvious candidates to be cut (other than Garoppolo and Renfrow), but they do have several contracts that can be restructured to create cap room.

At the top of the Raiders’ potential contracts to be restructured would be Kolton Miller and Maxx Crosby. Davante Adams could also save the Raiders cap room with a restructure, but his future with the team isn’t quite as certain as Miller and Crosby.

Every indication is that the Raiders have no interest in trading Adams, but there is still a feeling that the Jets will make a final offer for Adams that could be enough to make the Raiders think twice.

  1. Would focus more on free agency than the draft it what 7;weeks away down the road

  2. Lets go shopping!! Jones, Queen, Hunter, Henry, bring back Marcus Marriota as the veteran qb not the future but a body that would be cheap and help develop the young pups. Top priority in the Draft Jaydon Daniels.

  3. If you trade Adams then the Raiders might as well forget about a winning season. Trading Renfrow is a big mistake as it is. Need to work on the offensive line first. And I’m n talking about receivers or tight ends. Next go after Mack or someone of his caliber to complement Crosby.

  4. The RAIDERS ORGANIZATION WOULD BE RIDICULOUSLY STUPID TO TRADE DAVANTE.
