Raiders Seem More Invested in Squashing This Year’s Derek Carr Trade Rumors

Whatever your thoughts on Derek Carr, it might be time to settle in to the idea that he is going to be the Raiders quarterback next year in Las Vegas.

Certainly it’s the NFL and anything can happen, but the Raiders actually seem more settled on Carr this year than they were a year ago – and that’s the opinion of more than a few respected minds covering the team.

Remember it was Senior Bowl week a year ago that Jon Gruden was said to be listening to trade offers for Carr, but this year it seems like the team is actually working to squash trade speculation around Carr. Going back about a month, a handful of rumors popped up that Gruden might be looking to replace Carr, but that narrative seems to have lost steam in recent weeks.

Probably the most reputable suggestion that the Raiders would move on from Carr came from The Athletic’s Vinny Bonsignore – about two weeks before the end of the regular season.

Since that tweet, there have been no credible indications that Carr won’t be with the Raiders in Las Vegas. Instead, the popular belief is that the Raiders’ intend to put legitimate playmakers around Carr next year and see what happens.

Even Bonsignore, who is well-connected with the Raiders, has distanced himself from his December stance on Carr.

“My sense is [the] Raiders will fix WR1 through draft or FA, load up on defense in draft and FA, and finally give Derek Carr a fair chance to play with as complete a team as possible,” Bonsignore tweeted on Wednesday.

As for the Tom Brady rumors, don’t be so sure the Raiders would swap out Carr for the soon-to-be-43 year-old Brady even if they had the opportunity. Carr was the league’s 9th-rated passer in 2019 (100.8) despite an injured and depleted receiver group and Gruden still believes Carr is the best option the Raiders have at quarterback in 2020.

For what it’s worth, it also sounds like Carr has been given assurances that he’ll be back next year. Listening to his comments yesterday to ESPN, it’s hard not to believe Carr is in on the Raiders plan moving forward and part of the Raiders plan moving forward.

  1. i have no problem with carr ha didnt have a speed receiver that could catch but the raiders need a good back up quarterback if carr gets hurt they are done

    1. That Is absolutely The Truth . I Would See About Getting. Secound String Back up Quarterback , For The Colts I Think it Was Number 11. Or 17 ! He Is Very Moble & Not Afraid to Run The Ball to Pick up First Downs. Carr , is To Scared To Run ! Raiders Need a Moble Quarterback ? Especially Now days in The Games played Today ! If the Raiders Have Carr Again ! This Year ! Be Looking For Another Disapointing Year ! Unless Theres A Miricle ! Enrique – Rodriguez.

  2. Keep Carr, and please dont F-up the club by picking up Thomasine Brady, the no sportsman bitch, sore loser that she is
O only wished Jack Tatum had to have touched her up

    1. All this Carr stuff benefits is the slew of “bloggers” that suddenly fancy themselves sports reporters. And those that are legit reporters, like that fraud Mike Florio it just gives them some type of Esquire sensational journalism to draw eyeballs or ears! Derek Carr Las Vegas Raiders starting QB 2020-

  3. Article is correct. Carr’s rating put him at 9, his completion percentage put him at 2, almost a 3:1 TD to Int ratio with not a lot of talent at the receiver position. Give him a true #1 receiver and a decent #2, build the defense, and the Raiders are a contender again.

  4. Hey what did Brady do with no good receivers not much how about Rogers 2 years ago when his top 2 receivers went down how about Big Ben ECT ECT ECT Carr had no top receivers period he had a tight end and one hell of a running back but no top 2 receivers get him weapons and he will pick any defense apart keep Carr get receivers and linebacker and two corners and watch out because we’re going to be there

    1. Exactly. I’m tired of all the “supposed” fans calling for Carr’s trade or release. Calling him Mr. Check Down. He checks down because he has no speed and good route runners to get consistently open. Carr is a solid top 12/15 QB without much talent at WR. Give him some talent and speed, like Mahommes, Jackson and other’s have, he’d easily be top7/10. Remember all the people that had Mariotta, Winston, etc, SO much better than Carr? Winston has been better since they got him a top receiver and help, but he’s an interception machine. And Mariotta, well we see where he is. Carr had Cooper, and aging Crabtree and a solid TE and got to the playoffs. Get him elite help at WR and see where we go.

  5. Carr’s okay isn’t the problem. It’s the defense. Build the defense, resign Washington as backup RB, Joseph SS, cut Williams and resign him to a smaller contract, get Foster Murrow healthy, and let Carr spread the field on 3rd downs. And watch how good the Raiders become overnight.

  6. Don’t keep this guy because you need someone to hang in the pocket and throw down field. He dumps the ball under coverage and don’t see the field. Take a look at Marriota and draft someone. They are year away on defense anyway. Some to make plays with his feet when needed. Wr, Lb ,Qb, PrWr this should be the draft, no free agent that stay hurt more than play.

  7. A completion percentage predicated on refusing to challenge defenses, possibly the worst pocket awareness of anyone with his number of starts ever, generally poor foot work, a one read and a check down QB that struggles to work progressions that will seldom allow plays to develop down field, functionally immobile despite a nice 40 for his position, does not take responsibility and a finger pointer, has failed to improve on game flaws going back to college, coddled and soft, prone to happy feet, the worst play action of any long term starter, while very good pre-snap struggles mightily to see the field once the ball is in hand.

    Carr is fools gold.

  8. We need better backups.
I like Mariotta from Tennessee or even Colin Kapernick (maintain Raiders bad boy image).
Both have talent, strong arms and can scramble.

  9. Carr is in the West coast offense, dink and dunk. Take what the give you. He was very successful.
The Raiders hamstringed them self’s with no receivers, One strong running back And a secondary that seemed to be gaining on coverage and run support. 2020 the vision is on the table.

  10. Carr is the QB for the Raiders and will be for a long time…. what good is a gun without bullets…..get Carr his bullets and he will shot, get the secondary issue resolved and continue to protect the QB…..and we will see you in the playoffs……..

  11. Carr reminds me of a QB the Rams had a few years ago named Jim Everett. Had all the talent in the world but was still lame. Had a good team around him but the team have him every excuse in the book as to why he never played to his potential. Same thing here….

  12. Carr will never win a championship for us if we get brady or anyone else we will start to turn up again carr plays scared and threw to williams mostly it was too predictable

  14. People forget that Carr has already gotten us to the playoffs before but what did it have when he did it a thousand-yard rusher, two solid receivers and a healthy offensive line. Then he broke his leg. injuries killed us this year but they’re definitely moving in the right . DC is not the issue. After that even in a losing season he still threw for over 4000 yards with broken bones in his back when he was plagued with injuries. He’s as tough as they come and he’s been able to hang in there and learn a very complex offense. He’s even become a bit more mobile as he was asked because Gruden likes vets and mobile quarterbacks

  15. The radar made a great decision to stay with him and get a great backup and some offense definitely some defense and they are going to still be contenders grueling or without Gruden they will be contenders they are the Raiders sayonara I won’t be running with you all this year thank you for all the years you gave me and the happiness and ups and downs through the through the Journey that we went with you all we are proud to say we spent money probably we spent time probably with the Raiders but as people get older things but things change as you move them to Vegas we got older we can’t travel that far thank you for television and radio and media and ESPN for all the things they have done for the years but less you know the Raiders are never die the Raiders forever no matter where they live where they move

  16. Carr not the same since broken leg and hurt back seems slot more scared to play like he was playing before broken leg scared to scramble

  17. Carr not the same since broken leg and hurt back seems alot more scared to play like he was playing before broken leg scared to scramble

  18. It’s very simple, give him WR’s (CeeDee Lamb and re-sign Williams), re-sign D-wash, get middle LB from draft or FA, and get a great corner’s from FA or draft. No need to sign QBs even for back up its a waste of money(Perriman is good when they have somebody to throw to). And then get a good LB coach, and fix the communications. Raiders is so close to be playoff contender morethan most analysts think. #justwinbaby #RNFL
