The Raiders seem to have hit a wall in their head coaching search and on Tuesday, the Broncos made a bold move to try and keep one of their coveted coaches from taking the Raiders’ job.
Davis Webb is one of the top remaining candidates in the Raiders’ coaching search, but he left his interview on Monday without a deal and now the Broncos are making a play to keep him.
It was reported on Monday that Denver offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi was fired by the Broncos in an effort to promote Webb and keep him from joining the Raiders.
A few hours later, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said the Broncos’ decision on Lombardi was definitely related to the Raiders’ interest in Webb.
“The Broncos are going to hire a new offensive coordinator. They need to run a process so based on NFL rules they can’t just say ‘Okay, Davis Webb it is your job,'” Rapoport said on NFL Network’s The Insiders on Tuesday.
“What [the Broncos] can do is incentivize him to stay and then potentially end up giving him the job. The fact that he is in the building right now for a rival interviewing for a head coaching opportunity and a strong candidate. These things are all related. We’ll see where it shakes out for the Las Vegas Raiders and for the Broncos, but things do not happen in a vacuum. Certainly, they are all related.”
Elsewhere around the situation, Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter confirmed an earlier report from Vinny Bonsignore that Klint Kubiak has not accepted a second interview with the Raiders, though neither offered the reasoning behind Kubiak’s decision.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero didn’t mention Kubiak but said on Monday that some candidates that have interviewed with the Raiders haven’t come away with a clear understanding of the team’s current power structure.
Brady’s presence looms large within the Raider organization and there are some who believe he intends to be involved in areas that not every coach will find to be appealing.

The new Raider motto – Commitment to Mediocrity and Confusion. Seriously, you have to be a little off to even consider working for that organization. They’ll probably end up with some high school coach if he’s willing to give up his teaching job. Embarrassing…..
THE SCARECROW IN THE BUILDING HAS A NAME
So, let me take an at bat at this one all right, and I quote,” the power structure remains uncertain to these candidates.”
There is a a scarecrow in the building scareing good people away. Let me take a guess, could it be the man who has four fired head coaches still on payroll? Could it be the man who ran this once proud team into the ground? Could it be the man who turned this team’s and it’s HOF players legacy into a joke? Could it be the trust fund baby who has never worked for a living, knows nothing about buisness or football and who just comes down from his luxery box to fire you?
The Pittsburgh Steelers have three head Coaches since 1969, they are a model of success and stability. The Raiders are the opposite of this and the scarcrow’s name is Mark. The Raiders will now have to over pay for their Coaches and Free Agents to attract anyone to, and it hurts my heart to say, the worst team in the NFL.

Your 100% correct. Mark was always the dorky little nerd from Piedmont High, I remember him in his little alpaca sweater standing alone while most of the kids were socializing with each other in the town square on Friday nights. His dad would yell at him to get out of the meeting as he didn’t know what was going on. Not everyone is gifted with smarts, but Mark really ought to sell the team for the good of the team
Raiders need to jump on Webb ASAP.
