Report Suggests Raiders HC Pete Carroll won’t be Interested in “Negotiated Resolution” to his Contract

After a 2-12 start to the season, every indication is that Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is most likely going to get his pink slip at the end of the season.

By all accounts, Carroll signed a three-year deal in January and a report this week suggested the team would like to negotiate a “negotiated resolution” to his time in Las Vegas where the 74-year-old head coach could avoid being fired.

“Something has to change,” NBC Sports’ Mike Florio wrote this week at ProFootballTalk.

“But will it? Coach Pete Carroll shouldn’t want to stay. The Raiders shouldn’t want him to stay. Current speculation, per a league source, centers on some sort of a negotiated resolution, pursuant to which Carroll ‘retires’ and gets a portion of what he’s owed. (The Raiders, we’re told, will be financially off the hook as to former coach Antonio Pierce, since he signed only a two-year deal when he got the job in 2024.)”

But according to Sports Illustrated insider Hondo Carpenter, Carroll probably isn’t going to let his employers off the hook with any kind of retirement agreement.

“I want to pick my words,” Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast.

“If the Raiders want to move on from Pete, that’s going to be their decision, but I do not see a scenario in which there is a mutual retirement. I’m just telling you.”

At this stage in his coaching career, Carroll probably doesn’t care about the semantics of his departure, and it sounds like he’s intent on getting all the guaranteed money in his deal.

For what it’s worth, there has only been one under the radar report on the money involved in Carroll’s deal. That report said Carroll’s contract was a three-year, $45 million deal, and if those numbers are accurate, Carroll will have roughly another $30 million coming his way if Tom Brady and company decide to fire him after the season.

  1. Pete would be smart to get it all from Mark…$6 million for Chip & $45 million for Pete. Doing great so far Brady!

    1. These regretful hires are all Brady’s. He should incur the cost. Especially since he was gifted part ownership.

  2. Pete Carroll is a Fraud and a Snake Oil Salesman… I love when some say “Well Respected”… Take a Hard Look at his Resume… Failed in New England – Failed in New York… Couldn’t get another job until he was last man standing for USC… Championships there Vacated – he escaped Just in Time to avoid the consequences that left USC s Dead Zone for Decades… He lucked out in Seattle when the GM scored on Several GREAT Defensive Players and Russell Wilson at his Best. Yet One Super Bowl and the other chance negated by the Worst Play Call in the History of the Game… Hey Dummy – You have Marshawn Lynch Run Him 4 Times if Necessary!!! There was good reason that he was known as BEAST MODE!!! Seattle fired Carroll by “Mutual” decision!!! HaHa – they Knew yet we Bit… we also Gave up a Draft Choice for a QB who is at Best Average on Petes insistence… BTW – The Seahawks have Done Better without this Fraud – only coaches worse thn Pete? His Two Sons!!! Mark Davis gets Fooled again – Thanks Brady!!!

    1. Yeah Brian Schneider has done a bang up job as GM in Seattle. Team is better off w/o Pete. Who would’ve known the team that thought Darnold was better than Geno is a Super Bowl contender?

  3. Why would Pete ever agree to a negotiated settlement? He’s owed the money left on his deal. He surely doesn’t seem like the type to leave 30m behind because he’s so unhappy with the Raiders job. Especially if he knows the Raiders have no intention of actually letting him stay on, anyway. And if it makes suckers out of Davis, Brady, Jim Gray, whomever… Well, that’s just kind of funny.

    1. Exactly, Hondo, like he always does, is stating the obvious.

I’d do exactly what Pete is doing. I’d be like fine I’ll be the scapegoat for you 2 moronic owners but you’re gonna pay me the rest of the contract & tell them both what reason do I have to resign?

  4. Raiderro is spot on the Hondo comment. This is Pete’s last payday, he’s not going to walk away from 30 mill. Maybe if Mark agreed to support his kids, but since we already have Gruden’s kid, and Brady’s buddies on the staff, maybe not.
Better off cutting bait and pay him off.

  5. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING is more important than getting this draft right, especially the later rounds. Examples; Puca Nacua, 5th round pick, Brock Purdy, Mr. Irrelevant, Max Crosby, 5th round pick… My point? It’s NOT where you draft but WHO you draft. These scouts, management and ownership CAN go a long way to righting this ship IF they get this draft right. NOT a **** thing can be done about yesterday but tomorrow is quite a different story.

I’ve been a Raiders fan since 1968 and know that the MOST IMPORTANT positions on ANY team is the offensive line. The success of ANY team is almost singularly dependent on the effectiveness of it’s offensive line. There was a time when this team had offensive linemen who were household names and this team had success because of their effectiveness.

    1. Which is why I wanted Telesco to stick around. I wanted an experienced GM to stay around.

I know Mayock bombed on some picks(Arnette) but he was all over Jacobs, Maxx, Renfrow, and he claims he wanted the Jax DE over Cle. I’d take that.

We will see about Spytek, I really could go either way with him

  6. He bombed on more than just Arnette. Abram, Ferrell, Leatherwood, too. He got some later picks right, but you can’t miss on virtually every first rounder when you inherit that amount of draft capital. Basically, his one successful first rounder was a RB. Ruggs, we’ll never know.

  7. No. eed to negotiate with old man Carroll, fire his A$$! MD needs to walk away, he has done nothing but ruin the Silver & Black. Brady isn’t helping either. Looks like I’m going with my backup Carolina Panthers. The Raiders are at least 5 years from being revelant.
