Report: Jordy Nelson Running Faster Under New Strength And Conditioning Coach

At 32, Jordy Nelson was supposed to be slowing down, but according to a report from The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, that may not be happening.

In fact, since teaming up with Raiders’ new strength and conditioning coach Tom Shaw, Nelson is apparently getting faster.

From The Athletic:

“For years, Shaw has told his athletes to “relax and run fast,” with no straining or extra movements and longer strides. And his methods get result with not only young players, but older ones as well.

Shaw said that 32-year-old Jordy Nelson is already faster than when he arrived in March. Many critics thought Nelson was shot after knee surgery two years ago, but Shaw said Nelson actually had the fastest time when he recently put a radar speed sign on the practice field.

Going back to high school, Nelson has always been fast, but has never been considered one of the NFL’s elite burners – which might be why he is so often able to sneak behind defenses.

Nelson’s 4.51 forty time as a rookie was deceiving because he doesn’t get to top speed as quickly as some, but when he does hit his final gear, there aren’t many who can keep up – as evidenced by the radar gun at Raiders’ practice.

Between Martavis Bryant, Amari Cooper, and Jordy Nelson, the Raiders should have three legitimate deep threats to go along with Derek Carr’s big arm.

Al Davis would be proud.

  1. You tell us he ran fast but you don’t give an MPH reading or 40 time?

  2. Every Raiders fan should be concerned if Jordy Nelson is our fastest receiver

    1. Not concerned, it just means that everyone has the potential to get faster also.

    2. Not really, they said overall top speed. It said in the article as well that it does take him a little while to get going and that’s not suprising because of his age. It’s like lifting weights you can probably lift like you did when you 19-20 but at like 30-35 your likehold on man I need to warm up first, all while lifting the same weight. Not saying that jordy isn’t gonna be fast but i think his 0-60 is a little bit slower than some of our younger guys.
