Report: Julius Thomas Likely to Hit Free Agency

If the Raiders are interested in signing Broncos TE Julius Thomas, it looks like they’re going to get their chance. According to the Denver Post, Thomas wants to test free agency and Denver has no meeting scheduled with their soon-to-be free agent.

The Broncos had previously offered their star tight end $8 million per year, but now it looks like Thomas is destined to hit free agency. The question is, will the Raiders be interested? If Reggie McKenzie’s history is any indication, Oakland will be in the mix. Since he came aboard in 2012, McKenzie has been searching for an athletic pass-catching tight end.

Reggie doesn’t like to overpay, but Thomas could be an exception. Not known for his blocking, it’s possible the Raiders will focus more on Thomas’ ability to address a different need – a playmaker for Derek Carr.

Other tight ends that could hit free agency include Jordan Cameron, Owen Daniels, Jermaine Gresham and Charles Clay.
