Report: Other Teams Watching the Raiders Closely to See Who They Cut at Wide Receiver

The Raiders have big decisions coming up to make on their wide receiver group.

Despite the news on Monday that Tyrell Williams has a torn labrum, the Raiders still have a deep receiver group and teams around the league are apparently monitoring Jon Gruden’s receiver room closely (though the Williams injury might affect who they actually have a chance at).

“Other teams are salivating waiting to see who the Raiders will cut at wide receiver,” Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter said Monday on the Silver and Black Today radio show.

As long as he is healthy enough to play, Williams will make the final roster. Hunter Renfrow, Henry Ruggs III, and Bryan Edwards are also locks to make the team. Nelson Agholor is close to a lock at this point, too. But behind those five (counting Williams), the Raiders have a handful of receivers that might not make the team but could make another team’s roster.

Zay Jones knows Gruden’s offense and has been working out with Derek Carr all summer. He has a real chance of making team, especially when you consider that Gruden traded for him a year ago. Rico Gafford and Keelan Doss are also players that would have more easily made the Raiders in any other year.

Could Gafford or Doss sneak into the team if Williams isn’t healthy enough to play?

We don’t have an opportunity to see players in preseason games this year, so there really isn’t a good way to guess about who the coaches might like. Media outlets get information from the team, but we know that coaches around the league are trying to take advantage of the limited access to hide players more than ever.

Wonder who those players might be for the Raiders?
