The Raiders agreed to trade Maxx Crosby once and apparently, they aren’t planning on doing it again.
According to NBC Sports host Mike Florio, the message out of the Raiders’ building on the last 24 hours is that their All-Pro pass rusher is no longer on the trade block.
“Maxx is back. And he’s apparently not leaving again,” Florio reported on Thursday.
“Per a league source, the Raiders are currently telling teams that defensive end Maxx Crosby won’t be traded, in the aftermath of the failed effort to ship him to the Ravens for a pair of first-round picks. The Raiders, we’re told, never wanted to trade him. He wanted out. Now that he’s back and has publicly recommitted to the Raiders, he’s staying put.”
There are a lot of reasons the decision makers in Las Vegas might tell teams that Crosby isn’t going to be traded and one of them might be because it’s actually true.
Maybe no one has been willing to offer two first-round picks (like the Ravens technically didn’t do) or maybe Crosby has had a change of heart, and he is no longer seeking a trade.
Whatever the case, there are plenty of situations worse than having one of the top defensive players in the league in the building and under contract for the next four years.
Trade rumors around Crosby will probably circle back before the draft, but for now it sounds like the Raiders aren’t interested in continuing conversations about trading their best player.
