Report: Raiders Considering Bringing Back Former Head Coach Hue Jackson

It was reported on Thursday that former Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is expected to be the Raiders next offensive coordinator.

Kingsbury was one of several candidates the Raiders interviewed for their offensive coordinator vacancy, and the belief was that they valued play-calling experience at the position.

As it turns out, the Raiders might end up with another former play-calling head coach in the building when the staff is finally complete. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, former Raiders head coach Hue Jackson is a candidate to join the staff in an unspecified offensive role.

Jeremy Fowler on Twitter: “The #Raiders interviewed former #Browns head coach Hue Jackson for an offensive staff position, per source. Jackson has a long history with Marvin Lewis, who’s set to join the Vegas staff. / Twitter”

With the expected hiring of Kingsbury and the possible addition of Jackson, Antonio Pierce could soon find himself managing a staff filled with big personalities – not to mention the fact that Jackson was once the head coach of the Raiders and for all intents and purposes, he was the general manager, as well.

All that being the case, Mark Davis has prioritized experience in the building alongside his first-year head coach and the way things are shaping up, he might end up with a house full of it.

  1. There is a negative side to this. Too many expert in the house with opposing ideas, especially Hue who just might usurp AP’s position. He did this already when he was our OC. This more experienced former HC’s he’s bringing onboard could end up over running him. I’m just hoping AP has something up his sleeve to prevent this from happening.

    1. Too many cooks could be a concern. But I don’t think it’ll hurt this group.

      1) I think Maxx Crosby won’t let anyone divide the locker room.

      2) The relationship between AP and Marvin Lewis is tight enough that Lewis – effectively being the Chief of Staff will keep everyone in their roles. I have faith that he understands what his role will be and he’ll be AP’s loyal supporter. Already proved he didn’t need top billing when he was co-ordinator with AP in the past. He doesn’t have anything to prove.

    2. AL Davis is the one who gave Hugh that power over Tom Cable, so if it happens again it will be Mark who does it

  2. Not sure how Hue is to work with but some of the best play calling was done when he was the coach. Lots of creativity

  3. I agree with Roem. Too many cooks in the kitchen. Why can’t Mark Davis just get us an OC and be done. That’s really all that was missing was a really good, and experienced OC.

  4. After Jackson’s pathetic stint with the Browns…not sure why you consider hiring him. First year head coach doesn’t need to bring a head coaching failure into his staff. This is a really bad idea…

  5. Too much potential option battering in the team coaxing. Leave Jackson alone and out. AP has enough independent and supportive mentoring with Marvin Lewis as assistant head coach and Tim Coughlin as a special advisor or such. Neither of these two senior guys want or desire a new career restart, they just want to offer the benefit to AP of their wisdom, experience, and objectivity. We don’t need Jackson in some unspecified offensive role unless Mr Davis wants him to keep an eye on newly hired OC Luke Getsy. Why do that? If he doesn’t trust Etsy than why did he hire him. KISS MR Davis and save an extra salary for nothing!
