Report: Raiders “Continuously In Contact” With Bashaud Breeland

The Raiders were one of the first teams to host Bashaud Breeland on his free agency tour that is now been heating up for about three weeks. Among the other teams known to have been interested in Breeland are the Chiefs, Ravens, Jets, and Patriots.

The Raiders haven’t been linked to Breeland since his initial visit in July, but according to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, the Raiders have been in continuous contact with the 26 year-old cornerback.

Whether Breeland ends up in Oakland or not, it’s become clear that the Raiders feel they have a need at cornerback. Earlier this week it was reported that they were bringing in free agent cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and it’s fair to wonder if concern has grown that Gareon Conley (injury) and Daryl Worley (legal) may not be able to stay on the field.

Conley is expected to return to the field soon after suffering a hip injury last month and Worley is awaiting word on any league discipline after pleading guilty to driving under the influence, resisting arrest, and a firearm charge.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Raiders have a little more than $2 million in salary cap room at the moment. For what it’s worth, about 60% of the team’s contracts are tied to the offense compared to about 38% to the defense.
