Report: Raiders Expected To Re-Sign Nelson Agholor

The Raiders have been working toward a contract extension with wide receiver Nelson Agholor and according to Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter, there is sentiment around the league that Agholor will ultimately return to the Raiders.

Carpenter indicated that a league source told him Agholor is likely to get around $15 million over two years from the Raiders when the deal is finally done.

No Title

I said I was told by an NFL member of team management that, “I’m hearing Raiders will do a deal with Agholor for 2 years $15 million.” I didn’t say done yet. Thank you. https://t.co/2Su3g5zdn0

Considering Agholor was expected to test free agency, why and how would this information be known so soon?

The short answer to that question might be that agents and teams tend to talk long before free agency begins. It’s no secret that the free agent pool at wide receiver is a lot deeper than it was a year ago and that only hurts the market value. High-priced free agents (like Allen Robinson) might be able to leverage a better deal as free agency gets closer, but there’s a chance Agholor pretty well knows his value by now – and it sounds like that value is around $7.5 million per year.

All things considered, Agholor most likely has more value with the Raiders than he would anywhere else. His career will only benefit from being paired with Derek Carr. He was clearly Carr’s most trusted wide receiver this year and if he can put up two more good seasons with Carr, Agholor stands to hit free agency again at 29 years old with a solid resume.

Bottom line… Agholor’s return to the Raiders would be good news for just about everyone involved – with the exception of maybe Bryan Edwards.

  1. Why why why, Brian Edwards is an up and coming great player, letting him go will be a “BIG”Mistake please don’t do it chuck🙏🙏

      1. I’m sure it has very dead money in year two so if Bryan Edwards or anyone else develops they can move on. I would still like to see them cut Williams and go after Robinson if the price too high or the contact too long.

    1. They aren’t letting him go either way. Just means if Agholor stays, Edwards won’t get a huge snap increase he would have if Agholor signed elsewhere.

    2. We just drafted him why in the name of all that is holy wud u think we wud get rid of B-ED? Plus he’s got a rookie contract. In my mind this will make for more 1 on 1’s for a 2021 much improved Edwards from his lackluster freshman year. (cept for week 17) After we threw him the ball he showed he can make plays and that’s a bonus for Silver and Black! Just Win Baby!

    3. Nelly is a top notch wide receiver with ample experience and now he’s moved away from the pressure cooker that is “Philly” we’re seeing him thrive. He’s also a stabilising presence for the young receiver core around him & I’d also definitely keep B.Edwards, that’s a no brainer..

  2. Brian Edwards won’t be going anywhere… Re-signing #15 will only bring more of what we seen from him in 2020! He has a great relationship with his new found team and it will only continue to grow stronger! He’s the perfect age & fit for this system and yes he will show his value 2 yrs from now!

  3. totally agree, don’t know why we didn’t see more of him during the season especially in red zone situations. Look what he did in Denver when he finally had a shot. (6pts.)

  4. They’re not letting Bryan Edwards go, this comment just indicates he will have a tougher time getting playing time/targets with Agholor here. He will have plenty of time on his rookie contract to make himself a name with us.

  5. Resigning Nelly doesn’t mean we’ll lose Edwards. Gotta jeep the guy who performed and stayed available.

  7. I wouldn’t worry about Bryan Edwards. As things currently stand he will become the counter punch with Agholor. Lets face it the one in trouble is Ruggs more then anyone. He is the one who needs to get back to work and focus on craft again.

  8. Guys cmon,
Common sense should immediately kick in after reading that comment about letting edwards go and help remind us that unfortunately there are people that don’t have any resemblance of intelligence. Obviously Brian Edwards isn’t going anywhere. He’s just finished his first year on his rookie contract.
Some people just fail to think, either before they speak or ever at all.
