The Raiders are looking for a true no. 1 wide receiver, according to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur, and the popular name in the news is Seattle’s D.K. Metcalf.
It was reported on Wednesday that Metcalf requested a trade from the Seahawks and considering his ties to Pete Carroll, it has been assumed the Raiders would be interested in potentially trading for him.
It has been reported that Seattle is looking for first and third-round picks for Metcalf, and the 27-year-old wide receiver is seeking a new deal worth upwards of $30 million per year. It’s unlikely the Seahawks are going to get anything close to a first-round pick for Metcalf, but it does sound like the Raiders are one of the teams that have inquired about him.
“The Las Vegas Raiders are among the teams the Seahawks have talked to about a possible Metcalf trade, a source told ESPN. If Seattle does deal Metcalf, Schneider pointed to the draft as a deadline,” an ESPN report indicated on Friday.
This year’s free agent class at wide receiver is relatively weak, so the Seahawks should have a market for Metcalf, but the challenge will be finding a team willing to meet his contract demands.
For what it’s worth, the Raiders have a lot of irons in the fire at the moment and their quarterback situation seems to be heating up in the last 24 hours. That’s the bigger story at the moment, although it’s not clear which quarterback could potentially be involved.
One name to watch for the Raiders might be J.J. McCarthy, who could be on less stable footing in Minnesota than it looked like a week ago.
“A couple of weeks ago, I told you that people close to [Darnold] had told me that he would be willing to take less money to get a deal to stay in Minnesota. He likes it there. He respects the coaches, respects the organization,” Sports Illustrated’s Hondo Carpenter said on the Las Vegas Raiders Insider podcast on Thursday.
According to Carpenter, if the Vikings sign Darnold to a multi-year deal, they might be willing to listen to offers for McCarthy.
“Last night, by someone who has been giving me information throughout this process, I was told that if Sam Darnold were to get a multi-year deal, that the chances would improve that Minnesota would trade him,” Hondo said.
“I can tell you this,” he continued. “If J.J. McCarthy were to become available, and I’ve said this on this podcast multiple times, I know that there would be interest from the Raiders. Now, interest doesn’t mean a trade would be imminent, but I know there would be interest there.”
