Report: Raiders Exploring Trade for Current Starting Quarterback

The quarterback situation is heating up in Las Vegas and it’s starting to feel like Tom Brady and company might have a veteran quarterback in place prior to the start of free agency.

Every indication to this point is that the Raiders are not particularly enthusiastic about their free agent options at quarterback, and according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, they are considering the possibility of trading for a current starting quarterback in the league.

Russini didn’t disclose which starting quarterback might be an option for the Raiders, but Geno Smith comes to mind with his connection to Pete Carroll.

There is buzz around the league that Sam Darnold might return to the Vikings on a two or three-year deal, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter thinks it’s unlikely that Darnold will return to Minnesota.

Asked by Minnesota radio host Paul Allen what the chances of Darnold returning to the Vinings would be, Schefter didn’t mince words.

“Not high,” Schefter responded quickly. “As we go over all these scenarios, they’re all in play, but I think the Vikings [are] a down low scenario. I don’t view it as a likely scenario right now.”

Depending on how things play out in Minnesota, the Raiders could potentially be in on Darnold, but there’s also small chance they could wiggle into a situation where J.J. McCarthy might become available.

That scenario seems unlikely, but there is reason to believe McCarthy would be the quarterback the Raiders would be willing to give up the most to get.

On a wide receiver note, NFL Network Mike Gararolo said the Raiders are “a million percent” in the running for D.K. Metcalf and Carroll made it known at the Combine that he would be interested if Metcalf became available.
