The loss of Davante Adams left a void at wide receiver for the Raiders, but according to Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer, there was an effort made by the Raiders in the Adams deal to get Mike Williams from the Jets.
“I can give you this little nugget on [Mike Williams],” Breer said on the Rich Eisen Show this week. ”The Raiders tried to get the Jets to throw him in the trade for Davante Adams and the Jets wouldn’t do it.”
Williams remains a candidate to be traded, but Breer hinted that the Jets still want a respectable return on him.
It would be interesting to know what the Jets wanted from the Raiders in return for Williams and it’s possible they would have added him to the deal if the compensation would have been a firm third-round pick.
As it stands, the Raiders can still get a second-round pick for Adams if the Jets reach the AFC Championship game or Adams is voted to the Associated Press All-Pro team.
Neither of those options are likely to happen and the best-case scenario for the Raiders might be that their acquired pick from the Jets will come at the top of the third round.
There has been speculation that the Raiders could have gotten a second-round pick for Adams if they had been willing to take on more of his contact, but several reports prior to the trade suggested Mark Davis wasn’t willing to absorb any additional money from his deal.
The biggest trade question around the Raiders right now isn’t about who they might try to get ahead of the deadline… but who might be willing to sell off.
Maxx Crosby and Brock Bowers won’t be traded, but is there anyone else on the roster they wouldn’t consider trading between now and the November 5 deadline?
