Three weeks into the season, Klint Kubiak is one of the hottest head coaches in the NFL, and it seems like the Raiders have finally hit a home run with a head coaching hire.
Raider fans are still getting to know Kubiak, but what has been clear to this point is that Kubiak is one of the most organized and best-prepared coaches in the league.
From the outset of the season, it has also become clear that Kubiak prefers to withhold information.
He likes to keep details tightly guarded, a topic discussed by Raider Nation Radio host ‘JT the Brick’ during his show this week, highlighting the nature of the current coaching staff.
“The coach is buttoned up. That means his coaches are buttoned up,” JT said on flagship radio show on Thursday.
“You don’t a bunch of coaches on X with their thumbs going crazy telling you how great they are. I talked to Mark Davis one-on-one about this the other day, about the way this coach and this staff conducts themselves, and how buttoned up they are. And everybody knows that.”
Klint Kubiak doesn’t let sensitive information leave the building…
Yahoo’s Jori Epstein wrote a column this week on Aaron Rodgers, and she wrote about the effort teams make to keep information from getting into the wrong hands. She said some teams keep their quarterback signals saved on a Google document, but last year in Seattle, Kubiak would go to extreme lengths to keep game plans and information away from other teams.
“Not everyone relies on a signals Google Doc like the Steelers do,” Epstein reported this week.
“The Seahawks last year tracked their signals in a hard-copy notebook, quarterback Drew Lock told Yahoo Sports, as then-offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak also limited weekly game plans to hard copies that were shredded in the corner of the room after each contest. No secrecy measure spared.”
For anyone who has followed the Raiders for the last few years, it has been noticeable how little information leaves the building.
Kubiak’s press conferences have been no more informative than what Bill Belichick’s used to be with the New England Patriots.
The good news for Raider fans, though, is the team is undefeated after three weeks and winning games has been a lot more satisfying than entertaining press conferences.
