Reports Conflict on the Severity of Malcolm Koonce’s Injured Knee

How serious is Malcolm Koonce’s knee injury?

That’s the question everyone is asking after the Raiders placed their star pass rusher on the Injured/Reserve list on Saturday.

Since being given his injury designation, there have been conflicting reports on the nature of Koonce’s knee injury. An ESPN report on Saturday said the injury could end his season, but a report in The Athletic on the same day gave a more optimistic outlook.

“Coach Antonio Pierce didn’t share any details Friday about how the injury occurred or the severity of it,” The Athletic’s Vic Tafur and Tashan Reed reported.

“A league source had said it was not believed to be serious and the Raiders were being extra cautious because of the soft turf at SoFi Stadium, where Sunday’s game will be played. But Koonce will now be out through at least the team’s Week 4 game against the Cleveland Browns.”

The Raiders will be without Koonce for at least four games and, for now, there seems to be hope that he can return in week 5 against the Broncos.
