Richie Incognito Responds to Raiders’ Decision to Fire Chip Kelly

Richie Incognito had become one of Chip Kelly’s harshest critics in recent weeks and on Monday he responded to the Raiders’ decision to fire Kelly.

“They had to make the move,” Incognito said on The Arena: Gridiron podcast.

“Chip’s offense isn’t translating to the NFL. It’s too vanilla [and] too predictable. They give up 10 sacks to Cleveland yesterday. They were only able to put up 10 points. The offensive line is a complete mess. We got two third-round picks sitting on the bench that can’t see the field. It’s been a mess from the start, and they decided to make a decision and get rid of him. Two thumbs up from me.”

For anyone who missed it, Incognito went scorched earth on Kelly last week on the same podcast.

“I think Chip Kelly, his issue is, he thinks he’s smarter than everybody, and he’s going to let you know that he’s smarter than everybody,” Incognito said on Thursday of last week.

“In the NFL, there’s a lot of smart guys, and there’s a lot of great players. So, this bullsh– offense that he’s running is not working. Chip needs to look himself in the mirror and ask himself about the personnel decisions they’ve made, the offensive line that they’ve trotted out there.”

Incognito also added that he felt Kelly was rubbing the locker room “the entire wrong way.”

With Kelly’s departure, the Raiders are turning to Greg Olson to run the offense, and this will be the third time Olson has been the team’s offensive coordinator.

Olson was the Raiders’ offensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014, and again with Jon Gruden from 2018 to 2021, and now takes over for the final six games of the 2025 campaign that will feature (for now, at least) five opponents with winning records.

With that in mind, for anyone keeping track… the Raiders have the insider track to a top 5 draft pick, but they are going to have to raise their level of losing even lower if they want to unseat the Titans for the no. 1 pick.

Considering how awful they have played in recent weeks, anything other than the no. 1 pick in the draft this year would be a disappointment.

The fans and the organization have earned it. The Raiders deserve the first pick in the draft.

  1. We’ll see if Chip was the reason for this inept offense. I think it goes beyond him. He may have not been effective bc of this inept OL which I doubt he chose the personnel. The line sucked last season, WHY dud they not upgrade the personnel???
