Schefter Fuels Rumors Deion and Shedeur Sanders Could Be a Package Deal

The draft is still six months away, but it’s starting to feel like this is going to be one of the most dramatic drafts the NFL has witnessed in years.

There might not be a generational quarterback in this year’s class, but Shedeur Sanders is going to bring an unprecedented level of star power to this year’s draft.

Not only is Sanders expected to be one of the first quarterbacks taken in the draft, but there’s a chance his dad is going to try to force him to the organization he believes is the best fit for Shedeur’s career.

“I know where I kind of want them to go,” Deion said in March about Shedeur and teammate Travis Hunter. “And let’s not forget Shilo [Sanders]. But I know where I want them to go. There’s certain cities where it ain’t going to happen… It’s going to be an Eli [Manning].”

Sanders didn’t say where he wants Shedeur to play, but has acknowledged in other conversations that he approves of the Raiders.

There will be plenty of time to decide the best fit for Shedeur, but Adam Schefter stoked an even bigger conversation on ESPN’s Get Up on Thursday morning.

Could Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders end up being a package deal in the draft?

”This is going to be an option that’s out there,” Schefter said of Deion joining the coaching staff [presumably as the head coach] of Shedeur’s next team.

”We’re not saying it’s happening,” Schefter continued. “We’re saying that this is one of those options that’s going to heat up, that’s going to be in play this offseason. Is there a team out there that’s in position to get Shedeur Sanders that also wants to go and hire Deion Sanders to marry them up together moving forward?”

One question that’s probably worth asking now is… how is the elder Sanders going to know which team to join if they don’t have the no. 1 overall pick?

Would there be a more disastrous scenario than Deion taking a head coaching job and another team taking Shedeur with the first pick?

It could happen for no other reason than the team drafting Shedeur understanding they could demand a king’s ransom from Deion’s team in a trade.

Somewhat forgotten in his history is the fact that the Giants had to give up a huge haul of picks to get Eli Manning from the Chargers in 2004. The cost was a third-round pick in 2004 along with first and fifth-round picks in 2005.

If the Raiders get the first pick, maybe they could be the team that gets multiple picks for Shedeur.

Just something to think about as we move closer to the draft and the hypothetical scenarios pile up a little more every week.

  1. I think whatever team Shedeur gets drafted to, you have to have an offensive line that’s going to be instant success for him. Just not for the Raiders until they fix what the Achilles heel of this team.
