Schefter Shares Exciting Outlook on Raiders 2025 Free Agent Spending Capabilities

The Raiders have a lot of ground to make up in the AFC West, but with the second-most available salary cap in the NFL, they are going to have an opportunity to overhaul the roster in March.

With upwards of $92 million in projected cap room for 2025, the only reason the Raiders shouldn’t be able to lure in some of the top free agents on the market would be an unwillingness to spend.

But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the new influx of ownership in Las Vegas has given the Raiders an opportunity to spend aggressively now and in the future.

“This is where the new money and the limited owners have come into play, because Mark Davis got an infusion of money from the limited owners that included Tom Brady, and they now can go out and spend that money on guys like Chip Kelly. There’s no salary cap for coaches. You’re capped on what you can and can’t spend on players, but there’s no cap on coaches,” Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday.

“Having cash is a big deal and the Raiders clearly have some cash that they can throw around at coaches and that they are going to be able to use in the form of guaranteed money and signing bonuses to upcoming free agents. So that’s going to be something I think the Raiders lean into as they try to make up ground on the rest of the teams in the AFC West and in that conference.”

Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer said on Monday that Chip Kelly is now the highest-paid coordinator in the NFL and his $6 million per season is competitive with some head coaches in the league.

As of now, the Raiders are only behind the New England Patriots in terms of projected cap room in 2025.

Two playoff teams – the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers – are also among the top 5 teams in projected salary cap going into next year, according to OverTheCap.

  1. Big$ FA acquisitions don’t always pan out, their level of play usually drops off after they get the big FA contract. It’s always better to build thru the draft, first, then fill in the roster with FA. Having $ to spend on coaches also doesn’t always mean success. What about all the squandered $ on Gruden, McDaniels, and Zeigler?

  2. When Pete got to Seattle my first thought when free agency started was why is Seattle signing EVERY free agent available. Particularly on the line and at linebacker. He let them all compete and kept the best of the lot. I didn’t get it at first because I didn’t know his philosophies but knowing now I do expect the raiders to be extra busy in free agency leaving no stones unturned. An emphasis will be put on both lines and I expect a lot of both sides to be signed to create that competition

  3. Money will not solve: instability, incompetence, irrelevance, bad decison making and mismanagement in both football and buisness operations. The Raiders are not even competitive, as evident by Mark Davis’ 91 – 137 record with no playoff wins since he inherited the team. This is due to the culture of instability Mark Davis has created with six head coaches and almost as many General Managers in the last thirteen years. Three of the these six coaches he is still paying because a Mark Davis hire is a Mark Davis fire, in that he will not allow a program to grow and develop. In buisness operations the Raiders have lost their second largest televison market in the number three media market in the country, in the region of Northen California, where the games do not even appear on television any more for the first time in their history. This along with being the NFL’s most expensive ticket for one of the worst teams guarentees they will never have a home field advantage. The stadium does sell out yes, for other teams to wipe their feet with this door mat team. Paid for Apologists and Carnival Barkers Hondai Carpenter and “JT the Plastic” can not spin this disaster no matter what they try to twist, the RN was here before they got here and we will be here after they leave, plus no one is buying their BS anyway. BOYCOTT until Mark Davis sells, the Raiders status as loseing organization is not acceptbale.

    1. I would never in life boycott my squad. I also would never participate in a fan revolt to overthrow the Davis family. You do what you must but this raider fan is opposed to any of these tactics. Your a fan, be a fan. You hate the squad go fond you another to root for. What should never ever happen is the fans dictate policy in any way shape or form. It might feel good to say, airing your grievances but the truth is nothing positive would come from all that negative energy. I’m a realist, we suck and largely for some of the aforementioned reasons but you act like you got some right to attempt to impact the organization and to me that’s you placing your energy in the wrong place. Again, be a fan or don’t. Those to me are your real options!

  4. I think we have like 24 or something players that are FA’s, so that cap number has to go to a lot of players. Not as great as it’s being presented here. No, we aren’t in cap hell, but we have a ton of players that need signed. Maxx also wants more guarantees/extension. So..
