Teammate: Clelin Ferrell Standing Out at Raiders Training Camp

Which player is catching the eye of teammates at Raiders training camp so far?

According to defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, that player has been second-year defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell.

“Cle (Clelin Ferrell) looks really good this year,” Hurst told The Athletic’s Vic Tafur on Wednesday. “I can definitely tell that he worked very hard in the offseason. He looks bigger and faster and more comfortable. The game is slowing down for him.”

Ferrell endured a tough rookie season in 2019, largely due to an illness in the first month of the season and playing well below an ideal weight for most of the year. The Athletic reported in June that Ferrell peaked at 262 pounds last year, but lost 15 pounds of that weight in early October due to an illness.

Now he weighs around 275 pounds and defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said Ferrell doesn’t even look like the same guy.

Despite several reports about the solid camps that Ferrell and defensive end Arden Key are having, the Raiders continue to be linked to Jadeveon Clowney and Yannick Ngakoue. Given that the Raiders are returning Maxx Crosby (who was worthy of the defensive ROY in 2019) and signed Carl Nassib in the offseason, it will be interesting to see how aggressive the Raiders are to add another pass rusher.

On a side note, is it coincidence that seemingly every young defensive lineman on the Raiders roster seems to be off to an impressive start under new defensive line coach Rod Marinelli?

Most likely not.

  1. Every year I get hyped up ! But this year is different with the dam Kung Fu virus & the protest & looting seems we are in the twilight zone! SUPER BOWL OR BUST

    1. Twilight Zone is right! I bleed Silver & Black each and every year but this year is very different. I haven’t been this excited since 2002. This team that Gruden and Mayock have assembled is beyond my expectations. GO RAIDERS!
