Why New Report Around Raiders Potentially Trading Maxx Crosby Should Not Be Ignored

After a little scare over the Christmas holiday, every indication over the last few weeks is that Maxx Crosby will probably be back with the Raiders in 2025.

Reports have hinted that Crosby is not seeking a trade and during his media rounds at the Super Bowl last week, the All-Pro defensive end sounded like a player that’s happy with the new direction of the organization.

But trade rumors around Crosby aren’t going to die until he signs a new deal with the Raiders, and a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero breathed life back into the idea that Crosby might not be a lock to return to Vegas next year.

“While the hiring of Super Bowl winner Pete Carroll was a step toward stability, the Raiders still don’t have a franchise quarterback and have a ton of work to do to field a competitive roster,” Rapoport and Pelissero reported on Sunday. “Trading Crosby for a bounty of picks would be one way to expedite that process, and Crosby might welcome the change, particularly if it’s to a playoff team where he knows people (e.g. Green Bay).”

On the surface it sounds like Rapoport and Pelissero were just tossing around the idea of Green Bay as an example, but there might be a little more to their Packer reference.

Last year, Crosby threatened to “explore a trade request” through the same media personalities now talking about his possible interest in going to the Packers.

If Crosby went through the NFL Network crew to send a message last year, it seems reasonable to believe the same reporting tandem would be an authority on his situation this year.

There’s obviously a line of communication between Crosby and Rapoport/Pelissero, so it would make sense that those particulars insiders have good information on him this year. As we learned in the Ben Johnson saga, there are different insiders who should be considered an authority on particular players, coaches or even organizations.

In Johnson’s case, ESPN’s Adam Schefter was clearly a step ahead of the competition.

But when it comes to Crosby, Rapoport and Pelissero have proven to be reliable sources in the past. So when they mention the Packers as a team Crosby would consider playing for, it’s not a detail to ignore.

The reality of the situation, though, is that Crosby still has two years left on his deal and every indication is that he isn’t pushing to leave the Raiders.

But in the same breath, Crosby has no guaranteed money left in his deal and it’s unlikely the Raiders will expect him to play on his current contract. If the sides have trouble coming together on an extension, that will be the time to start questioning where Crosby is going to play next year.

Listen to how NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo tied Crosby’s contract situation to a potential trade request on Sunday…

  1. I’d hate to see Maxx go anywhere else. We need to build that line like the Eagles have. By the same token enough high draft picks might make the hurt go away.

  2. There was more production the last two weeks without him. Chew on them apples.
Save the money and take the multitude of picks.
I like Maxx too. But not at 20%+ of the cap.

    1. To be fair he was playing injured.

If a team can trade a Kenny Stabler, if a team can trade a Dave Casper, if a team can trade a Khalil Mack, then a team can trade a Maxx Crosby. But I sure hope it doesn’t happen.

  3. And anyone that ever intimates about wanting to be somewhere else absolutely should be dealt. Pronto.

  4. Absolutely, the team should listen to trade offers. There are some decent DE available in the draft, plus the team did well pressuring the QB when Crosby was out. It’s worth looking into, especially with Crosby having doubts on whether he wants to remain a Raider.

  5. So your Mad Maxx Crosby and every year you are watching and living through a new: Head Coach, General Manager and bus load of players come and go to a turn over ratio of 40%+ every year. A forty percent plus turn over ratio is near a whole new team every year three years with a few hold outs. (This is why agents try to steer their players away from this ship wreck in the desert that has a name, Mark Davis .) Mark Davis is responsible for this culture of instability. First he was not strong enough to stand by Jon Gruden then he brought the Wolf in the chicken coup when he hired McDummy for a Head Coach. ( We all liked AP but he was not ready.) Our G.M’s have passed on franchise Quarterbacks with in reach and you can only conclude we have an owner that neither knows football or buisness operations. Some uninformed hacks have tried to give credit to Davis for the move that is cash flowing and they don’t know team buisness operations either. Mark Badain was responsibe for finding this location and Badain had a lot of assistance in that process. We have one hope and only one hope for the future and that is for Tom Brady to assume a larger stake in this team, to transition it out of the hands of a loser into the hands of a winner. If Crosby catches a life boat then understand it is because Mark Davis makes everyone he hires walk the plank, or he won’t rescue anyone off of the plank either when he is in the position to do so. Deuces wild RN, dueces wild child.

  7. I like Maxx and he’s definitely a heck of a player. I don’t like that he throws these little crumbs out there about him potentially being with another team next season. I do see his point and don’t blame him for being tired with having no stability. The Raiders have to take some blame for these rumors as well. There’s nothing preventing them from extending him right now, at least I don ‘t believe it is. He is still under contract, so why not just sign him already. Unless there is some interest in moving on from him. The last time we did this with Mack it didn’t pan out but that was under John Gruden calling shots, and outside of Kolton Miller and Josh Jacobs most of their picks tucked. I think Crosby gets more credit than he deserves because he is a freaking stud in the amout of snaps he plays, but truth be told there’s a dozen DE’S that I wouldn’t even hesitate to trade straight up for Maxx. So yes if you can get a NICE haul. Do it!!!
