Will Antonio Pierce Be Back Next Year? Raiders Insider Shares Assessment

Will Antonio Pierce be back next year if the Raiders lose out?

That was the question posed to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur this week, and he believes the Raiders owner still has confidence in Pierce.

“You never know with Mark Davis. I think he really wants to bring Antonio Piers back,” Tafur said on the Just Win podcast.

“He was really mad today. I saw him walking today. He had a red face going, so he’s not happy. I can’t imagine what he’d be like if they lost the rest of their games. But like I said, I think he really wants to bring Antonio back next year.”

Vinny Bonsignore covers the Raiders for the Las Vegas Review-Journal and he had a little more aggressive take last week on the chances Pierce could be a ‘one and done’ head coach.

“It does feel like Pierce has some ground to make up over the Raiders’ last nine games to secure his future in Las Vegas,” Bonsignore said.

It’s worth noting that Tom Brady is probably going to be involved in all executive and head coaching decisions after the season and outside of losing to Pierce in Super Bowl XLII, Brady doesn’t have any professional history with the former Giants linebacker.

There’s a lot of regular season left, but if the Raiders don’t show signs of improvement in the next two months, it’s hard to imagine Pierce is going to get another year to make his case.

Former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon talked about the future of the organization this week and he isn’t optimistic that Pierce will be around after this season.

“At some point you have to look at the whole operation. I’m hoping that’s what is going to happen at the end of the season,” Gannon told Michael Lombardi on VSiN Live. “I can’t imagine Antonio Pierce will be back next year.”

Michael Lombardi on X (formerly Twitter): “The Raiders made coaching changes yesterday, but why did they stop at Luke Getsy? Las Vegas needs a complete remodel. And Antonio Pierce isn’t qualified to remodel a living room, let alone an NFL franchise.@RichGannon12 and I broke down the organizational issues on @VSiNLive. pic.twitter.com/3nZIlKdNyg / X”

  1. I was a fan of AP like a lot of us, and I’m not there to see or hear what the real problems are. Yet there are problems and if winning cures those problems then they are far from it. Just make the right decisions and you haven’t done that in a long time too. Who’s really in charge there?

  2. Bring him back regardless of what happens. Stop and think for a second, do you think bellicheat mcvay, walrus Andy could have done better than what AP has? Probably not, get him a top qb a running back…….. like he had and a healthy squad. You just don’t keep getting rid of coaches because of injuries or your players suck. This man is a freakin leader give him what he needs and deserves Ty, MD,TB…..

  3. Seems like Telesco is getting a pass even though it was his job to find an “actual” NFL QB. He hired a gardner. I’m not an AP fan either, I wanted Harbaugh.

  4. Unfortunately the whole organization should have been looked at 20 years ago. Instead it’s done yearly with no improvement. Could you imagine if they were a manufacturing company that made a product that didn’t work every year? How long would they be in business? Personally I can’t watch them anymore. And to think that 20 years have been lost that us fans will never get back.

  5. Opinion : Antonio wasn’t a head Coach to begin with , remember ?
He was rewarded the intern job
When Mc Daniel’s was Firered in midsession .as of today he’d maybe one year in . He also inherited a mess , lotta controversy at the time , plus disgruntled players . Won some games ,beat KC pretty good
I’d give him a second full year
A QB , a running back and a few receivers with a good OC . Let it rip and see wha happens

  6. I say bring him back. Take Dan Campbell as an example. First year with the Lions, he won 3 games. Got a young QB in Goff and year 3 he won 2 playoff games, now they looking like a favorite to go to the Super Bowl. I love to get a win, but we really need a top qb in the draft and hope it’s a fit. We have good cap space to sign a few of our players back, along with a few FA pieces. Our draft capital is in order and we just need Telesco to hit the next few drafts. I hate we wasting Crosby’s years but he is still fairly young as well. See what AP can do in 3 years and if he don’t cut it, time to go. At least we should have a young QB to build around. It’s a marathon not a sprint!!!

    1. If your gonna tank, then tank. That guarantees nothing!!! If you know something we don’t, then good for you. Mark Davis has proven nothing this far. Forgive me for wanting better for my team. GO RAIDERS!!

  7. The team isn’t playing disciplined and isn’t even competitive. They find ways to lose. I’m sorry but AP hasn’t shown enough, to this point, to be brought back as HC. Unfortunately, I don’t see the team suddenly going on a tear in these remaining games. If they start playing disciplined, competitive ball, and he learns to manage the clock, a case can be made for keeping him.
